I know this topic is out there because I Google it and it came up and that's why I joined this site.
A little bit about Duck, that's her name everyone calls her because I was not going to keep her. For veterinarian purposes her name would be Darla.
Duck came in mid summer. I got a call saying she was running all over up town. I am a wildlife rehaber. So I went and got her and her hatch sibling. Sibling didn't survive. I researched her and found out she is a wood duck. At first all was going wonderful. Then she grew big enough I felt she needed to go outside.
I have a large enclosure outside, the holes on the enclosure are so small I can't even stick my pinky finger in. We'll everything was fine for about 4 days. I went out to feed on the 5th morning and I found Duck stuck. She put her beak through a square. She didn't even try to struggle which told me she was stuck for quite some time. When I got her out I set her down and she could not stand any longer. She struggled before I found her and she broke her leg. Not just a typical break. It broke across the ball and down. I took her to a veterinarian and he said there was no way to cast such a area and to give her time to heal and that maybe the weight of her adult feathers would help her to heal.
She did heal up but she can't stand up to walk. She lays on her side mostly and scoots herself. She is wild and she does have the natural fear of people so touching her makes her scared. At the moment she lives in my garden bathtub. But that can not be her perminate home and I'd like for her to enjoy sunshine. If she had something that rolls she can go on our patio.
