Complications after FCE, Masticatory Muscle Myositis?

Postby JZMitch » Thu Sep 27, 2012 11:19 am

Our Greater Swiss, Arnold, experienced an FCE Memorial Day weekend. I first noticed in the morning when he yawned and his mouth didn't open properly. I then noticed the limping and by the end of the day, 3 of his legs were paralyzed. When the neurologist did the MRI to diagnose the FCE, he found that Arnold had mild Wobblers also, but didn't think they were severe enough to be of concern. Arnold came home prescribed with Gabapentin and within 2 weeks his mouth was back to normal. In about 6 weeks he was able to walk on his own without a harness. In the beginning of July I noticed again that his mouth was only opening about half way. To make a long story short, he started treatment for masticatory muscle myositis (even though i'm not convinced he has it) at the end of July with prednisone and now azathioprine. Has anyone experienced mouth/neck issues with their dogs after suffering from an FCE?
