my dog recently has IVDD and is paralyzedHi my name is Jennifer and I have a 2 year old chihuahua poodle mix named Hennessy. We found out on Sunday that he was diagnosed with IVDD and is paralyzed with no feelings in his back legs. He can no longer control his bladder and such. I took him to the vet and they gave me 4 different kind of meds for him to take. I have read some post on here about how their dog has recovered from being in the same position as my dog. The vet told me that he would have about a 20% chance with surgery but that's not talking to a specialist. I have yet to take him to the neurologist to get checked up on to see if his back nerves are still alive or dead. I'm a college student so I don't have THAT kind of money for surgery yet. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help him recover and help heal his nerves if it's not yet dead. The only time I take him out of his crate is when I express his bladder or clean his cage. He is kind of stubborn so most of the time he likes to sit or scoot around in his crate. I don't know if it'll be too late to have surgery on him when I'm able to save up enough money. I'm trying to be positive and have hope that he will slowly recover. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: my dog recently has IVDD and is paralyzedOh Jennifer, Hennessy is just adorable. Here are some links with information and encouraging stories for you. Have you thought about setting up a Chip In to raise money for medical care? www.chipin.com If you do, be sure to post that adorable picture and your story. You can also give people the option to donate directly to the vet for Hennessy. If you are on Facebook, you could create a page just for Hennessy and this purpose Help for Hennessy...Help my Hennessy I'll bet a bake sale for him would go over well at the college.
