neela got hit by a carabout 4 days ago i found a pit puppy in the middle of the road, she had gotten hit, i took her to the vet..and luckily all she had was a broke leg (her front) the vet told me to take her home and just watch her splint on her foot. come to find out, the puppy will not walk..she tries to get up but just falls back down. most of the time she just sits there though. i don't know what to do or what exactly is wrong with her, the vet said they took X-rays of all her legs and poked her and she didn't yelp towards it. i just feel really bad for her. poor thing has been through a lot. any suggestion as to why she isn't walking? i thought maybe she is paralyzed in her hind legs, but she moves them somewhat, so I'm not to sure if thats the problem or not. or maybe she is still in shock? she will scoot herself around but not much, and also she does go to the bathroom but she hasn't done #2 yet, but she is eating. so any suggestions please??
Re: neela got hit by a carHello and welcome
Did the vet take radiographs of the neela's spine and pelvis or just her legs? Has she had any blood work done? That she is still able to move her legs is good, that she can't stand may be due to a spinal cord injury (that may or may not show on X-ray), but also may be due to something else. She may have been dumped or thrown out of a car because she was unable to stand/walk unaided due to a problem she was born with. She could also be very weak due to other medical problems such as anemic or parasites. Until you know what is going on I would keep Neela confined to a crate. That way if she has an injury to her spine you are doing what you can to prevent it worsening. Glad she is eating and urinating, the poop will come when it is ready too! Regards Joanne Joanne
