Wanting to Adopt

Postby Laney » Sat Jan 17, 2009 1:45 am

I was just wondering if there would be any way to add a "Wanting to Adopt" section to the forum. It felt rather creepy to post as "selling" (or for that matter, buying) a special needs pet. I am searching for a special companion, not looking for a couch. :)

Go to our rescue and urgent rescue forums.
Go to www.petfinder.com key in your locale, the type of pet you want and under advanced, click special needs.
If you haven't had a special needs before, you may want to start by fostering to see if the glove fits, so you and your pet aren't heartbroken if that glove doesn't fit.
Welcome, and let us know how we might help.

I think a Wanting to Adopt section on the rescue forum might be a good idea. People usually don't read the classifieds unless they are trying to buy or sell something, and here a person could post more specifics and answer questions about the type of pet they are looking for.

It will require a vote by the board of directors which takes a few days, so I passed it on to them. I like the idea, I hope it is approved.

If it does happen, it would be good to suggest a number of things the poster should include, such as location, how far she is willing to travel or fly a pet in from, experience, types of special needs that would be considered, preferred breed or size of pet, for example.
