what great news, about daddy and mommy AND leo, of course.

you don't realize, yet, how much it means to US to hear other people's success stories. clearly, none of us were born knowing how to do this work, and the only way we learned was because people took the time to share their knowledge with us. that's the only way it can work: we each teach what we've learned, and the pool of those who can help expands outward.

blessings to all involved.

OKAY...

My work is not done. I saw a spitting image of the female at the bowl last night. Not sure what it is yet but it looks like the same cat I last trapped. So I'll make use of the trap ONE more time. Yeah right...

But Leo's Mom Maybe is going to be released tonight. Here are some updated pics of Leo, and LMM...

Notice how Leo is filling out? Every muscle on his body is less than three weeks old!! Amazing how these precious creatures can turn around from almost dying...

The spitting image of the female turned out to be another male. I got him last night. I will release him early in the morning.

So that's two males and one female we've taken care of. I hope my work is done for now...

Thanks again for the support and help here!!

Congrats on the catch! So very true...once a little red-headed boy walked up to me, so emaciated everybody thought he'd die. He had rounds literally eating him from the inside. It took time, but he was fine!!

Last night I put a can of cat food out at work for the ferals that our kitties turned up their nose to. What wandered out but two little kittens. I have no idea where they came from...someone must be dumping them. They found the opening that leads under the office building and momma cat must think this is the best place to rear her young. I have to wait before I trap the momma...let the kittens get older and stronger. We have four cats now and cannot take in another one. It wouldn't be fair to our other kitties. It was 26* a couple nights ago. I put an old bedspread under the building not knowing about the kitties then. I guess they found it warmer than the cold dirt and gravel under the building.

A good thing now is that the City of Stockton has a new spay/neuter program thanks to a grant and a very generous gift by an animal welfare advocate who recently passed. If I had his or her name I would publicly thank this wonderful person!! Animal Control will lend the traps and for FREE will spay and neuter any feral cat brought to them.

Wish this was going on three months ago.

Leo, the feral I trapped with a fish net is continuing to grow and has captured our hearts forever. When I think of that cold ground he was on and the condition he was in...

These two new kittens look like they're doing OK...kind of hard to tell with out being able to pick the precious little things up. So my work is not done...

I would like to add a few words here....My wife has a contract at a certain fedral facility where the feral cat population was out of control. We would go there weekly to provide service and slowly, but surely, she would befriend the cats. Call me a sucker, but with the ones she could catch, she would promise to have them spayed/neutered and take them back (yeah, right...). We now have 9 of them living with us....all indoor cats, with our most recent "acquisition" being the "momma" of most of the younger ones, and I'm sure, producer of most of the cats that used to be there. I now refer to our house as a cat carrier for humans... :D . Anyway, I don't really know the point of my early morning rambling other than to say that we have had good experiences with feral cats...most of ours were very young when we brought them home and all of them get along really well....we even have one that cleans the dogs face when he comes inside! I always like to do what we can when it comes to strays, ferals, and especially the ones you can tell that were "dumped" on the side of the road....it's always showtime at our house and it's really cool to be greeted by so many when you come home at the end of the day...we just sit in the middle of the kitchen floor and we are "swarmed" by 9 furry little balls of love who are happy to see us.

Foirget the Brady Bunch! I think the Discovery Channel is missing the bet on a great reality show. Bless you and your wife for being so caring!

Chris that is a wonderful thing you and your wife are doing. Lifts me up to hear such stories.

As far as my little colony is going I was able to trap ONE of the two kittens that are now fast on their way to becomming adult cats. They grow up very fast in the not so wild, on the edge of our world. We have her in our bathroom now recuperating. Way to cold for her to be outside, at least while the anesthesia was affecting her. This one seems much more healthy than Leo was. This girl has a nice layer of muscle on her. We (I) would love to keep her, but that would make five cats in a house of only 1000 sq feet. Add to that one indoor senior dog, (Chance) and our GSD Baron, a 90 lb. beauty that we are fostering for our son, who mainly stays outside during the day, and we have what you call our limit. I still have one other kitten to TNR as well as the momma. I think they saw the one kitten get trapped and after that all the tuna in the World wouldn't get them to walk into the trap.

But I am now on the list to be called when the City is going to have a "spay day" and I can now participate. These people donate their time, I spoke to one vet who travels all over the state DONATING his time. He has spayed/neutered thousands of these helpless animals and makes my little contribution to this problem look like next to nothing!! There must have been 15 people there all donating their time.

These are some of the best folks you'll ever meet, and I'm proud that I can help them do what they do!!

Re Baycox: DO NOT USE the pigeon formulation!!! It will burn mucus membranes without proper dilution because it's meant to be cut in water. ONLY USe THE PIGLET formulation available without prescription from Austrailia and Canada. Definitely do your research first!!!!!
