expressing bladder on paralyzed cat

Postby djb17cats » Sun Aug 26, 2012 2:49 pm

I have a cat whose hind legs are paralyzed & has to have his bladder expressed. For years, I have laid him on his side & pressed down to do this. (My Vet said it wouldn't hurt him). Now he has developed severe IBD and his bladder is very large, pressing on his intestines, so I have to find a way to hold him upward so I can squeeze his bladder without putting pressure on his intestines. Problem is, I can't hold him up & squeeze at the same time. I will need to build something, unless someone knows of a device to hold him up. I thought about putting him on his back, but that seems to cause him pain. Any ideas ?

:fireworks:

Critters built a 4-wheel cart for her cat (for mobility not expressing), could you try something like that?

Here is one for a small dog, could you make the bar in back lower maybe?

Here is another version where only the front is supported.

At the very end of the following article are a bunch of videos showing different ways to express a cat. Maybe you will see one you can adapt for your cat.

Can you explain a little more? Does he just not want to stand on his front feet for you? Or is he weak in front as well? Are you putting both hands on his bladder or just one?

It is so neat that you've cared for him so long. :D
