vibration training collars
vibration training collars
Hi all, New here, I have a 12 week old, 3/4 blind, deaf (we think), pit mix. I am thinking of training her with a vibration training collar. Has anyone had success with this and specifically are there any GOOD collars that possibly use patterns for the buttons instead of the traditional- one button for sound, one button for vibration and one button for both. I am more looking for possible patterns of vibration to give different commands. Any help is appreciated, Mark

I wish I knew anything about this, but I don't. I have a very senior dog who has been 95% blind and 98% deaf this past year and it presents more challenges than I realized. You think they can navigate by their sensitive nose, but in her case the sense of smell does not seem all that effective either. She has trouble finding food right in front of her, yet she remains active and enthusiastic and bouncy like she's always been. If I were in your shoes, the collar would be worth a try. I have seen mention of using a vibration collar for a deaf-blind dog on one of the Petfinder postings here.
Here is a page on training deaf-blind dogs, and they talk about it.

I don't know about your dog, but mine has scarcely slowed down, so I hope if you recall your dog, they know where to return to. My dog is always running into the doorway because she charges toward where she thinks it is, and you only have to miss by a few inches to bonk the frame, and I like I said, she hasn't slowed down. You are lucky if your dog is partially sighted.
The only thing I can think of on the collar is, I'd probably want to look for a main brand that will stay in business, because whatever your dog gets used to, you'd want to be able to get a new one from time to time, which operates on the same pattern they already learned.

PS There used to be a wrist band with several vibrators in it used to help deaf people, but I can’t remember what it was called… No idea if they still exist either.

PPS I don’t see the one I remember but there are some modern possibilities.
