Re: Could use some advice

I've been thinking about this. I don't know what would be best to do, either. I think this is probably one of those things where you just have to keep it in the back of your mind and let your heart make the decision while you are busy with other things. It shows how loving you are to your dogs that...

Could use some advice

Our dog Mocha is scheduled to be put down tomorrow (I have been posting on her issues on the paralysis board). I could use some advice on this though: We have another dog, Jason, who has grown up with her. They have never spent any significant time apart for the last 9 years. Mocha has been at the v...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

I just came from visiting her. She seems the same, if not worse. I brought some treats, which she didn't take. I think that's as good a sign I'm going to get from her. I can feel it now. She is done. Hubby is on the flight and unless a miracle happens in the meantime, we will put her down tomorrow m...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Well, it is a very uncommon occurrence, but it's probably best to be aware of the possibility. One of our moderators had her dog being treated at the Univ. of Penn and they told her that her dog had it, and they were wrong, he lived many more years. Here is her post about that. I know what you are ...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

There is something called myelomalacia that happens in a very small percentage of disk injuries. I think they used to say 3% but lately they've been thinking it might be a little higher. If the vet decides that is what is going on, it is something they have not found a treatment for. I am mainly ju...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Crate her! Don't let her move around too much. These dogs sometimes have really down days. I know the situation may be different then mine but my Lola will have weeks of good days and then all of sudden one day she just won't feel better. Could the meds be rough on her tummy? That alone will seem l...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

thanks, CarolC. looks like she isn'd doing so well today. Although some reflex has come back on the bladder and bowel control, it's not a lot. In the meantime her front legs are loosing strength and pain reflex. Pain/ distress seems to be increasing as well. I have to be honest, I'm not very optimis...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Ok, sorry, I didn't see the reply earlier... So, I did go to see her at the vet's office. She did show some signs of improvement, including some bowel and bladder control, so that was good to see. Unfortunately she was still in pain and seemed quite weak. Her poops are still quite soft, but not outr...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Just called the vet's office and wanted to share: I talked to the nurse and she said Moca ran a fever this morning, likely because she was weakened from the anaesthetics yesterday. They gave her some meds and fever went down and she has relaxed a lot this afternoon and seems very comfortable. Best n...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Thanks, FYI, that was super useful to watch. I wasn't aware of the lying down method. That seems a bit easier, so I might try that. So, we did the MRI today and from what I understood this was caused by a slipped disk that caused quite a bit of damage to the nerves. Surgery is not an option and so f...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Thanks, critters, for the clarification on the peeing. That makes more sense! In this case, I think I will stick to the pee pads for now. We don't quite have the aim down at the moment... :( @CarolC: thanks also for all your input! The point of decal matter giving her a urinary tract infection hadn'...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Thanks, critters! When you pee Buddy into diapers, how can you tell, if you are done? Or is this just a practice thing? For now, I hate the pads for this, as it is hard to control the pee (going down her legs etc) but at least I can have a feel for how much she is peeing and see, if there is any mor...

Re: new to this: how do you provide water?

Hi guys, sorry for the super late reply, but we have been running around seeing different vets etc. We have found a very good vet (from what we can tell anyways) and she has been hospitalised there. She is on predisone (sp?) as well as antibiotics at the moment. The exact cause is not yet determined...

new to this: how do you provide water?

Hi there, I'm new here. My 9yo cocker spaniel Moca is paralysed since yesterday. Her hind legs have zero control and she cannot hold her pee or poop. this all happened yesterday. Since then we have been to 2 vets (one of which was a teaching hospital) and the verdict is that there is very little hop...
