Re: FHO Surgery on Kitten
My cat Raven had an FHO and sx to repair a luxating patella on the same leg back in 2004. Like Critters said first thing I would do is call the ortho surgeon and let him know. According to the PROM instructions that I received from the vet, "a minor degree of discomfort is anticipated during th...

Re: Nigel, the two week kitten
Tammy: You asked for other suggestions. You have not followed the advice you have been given regarding helping Nigel survive kittenhood thus far. Like Jean says, he needs to see a vet ASAP and should have seen one before now. I am a certified vet tech and would not hesitate to take him into the vet ...

Re: Nigel, the two week kitten
Tammy: Nigel needs to see a vet. The fluid filled bump on his head could very well be an abscess that needs to be drained and antibiotics given. Kittens are developing immune systems and they are very susceptible to infections and they just don't overcome these things without intervention. You also ...

Re: Our new special baby
I have two incontinent cats, one of whom Harley was originally named Scooter. The most important thing, I think, is to learn how to express the bladder. I am not sure how old Scooter is now but I know with Simon, who is now 7 years old and I have had since he was about 2 months old, when he was a ki...

Tiva- Lipoma on elbow on her only front leg
I got Tiva in December---I saw her on the dogsindanger website (which lists the number of days before euthanasia). She is a tripod and apparently was born without her left front leg. I have a couple questions. First, while she was in obedience training class on Sunday, the trainer noticed a lump on ...

Re: Max Cal by Eukanuba
Carol, I have the Iams Maximum Calorie (used the Eukanuba before but I think Iams makes that stuff too) for Charlie who has a squamous cell carcinoma in his mouth. I am using that to tube feed him, however. I feed a couple of my cats a little a/d--- I think if the cats are going to eat it they prefe...

Re: PETE has cancer
Between 6/8/08 through 12/8/08, Junipurr had 25 weeks of treatment, as I look through her records. Approximately 4 times I gave cyclophosphamide (cytoxan) which is a tablet at home. However, depending on the type of chemo drug, including the medical progress exam and CBC, the costs ranged anywhere f...

Re: PETE has cancer
Sheri: I am not going to tell you that it is inexpensive. I am now bringing Junipurr in once a month and giving her a chemo pill (Cytoxin) every other week two times per week and prednisolone every day. Costs for treatment typically range around $300 each time. In the beginning you will probably be ...

Re: puppy with frostbitten toes
You may also want to try on handicapped.pets.com and look at the boots they have. My dog Jack drags his back paws sometimes when he walks and I have used the durable pet shoes on him to protect his the pads on his backpaws. (Unfortunately, Jack may have to go back to using his wheelchair.) Diana

Re: PETE has cancer
My first recommendation would be to go see an oncologist, a cancer specialist, and find out what they would recommend in terms of a chemotherapy protocol. I would not fool around with just herbal remedies if there is such a thing in treating cancer. I have had several cats whose life has been prolon...

Re: Glaucoma or cataracts?
My dog Quincy developed cataracts---he was also diabetic but the vet said they were do to his age (10 years). His cataracts were surgically removed and a vet opthalmologist had to do it. I also have never heard of drops as an option although drops several times a day were required post-surgery as we...

Re: prednisone
You may also want to consider getting a glucometer like an alpha trac (which is for cats and dogs) and monitor your dog's blood glucose levels at home. You can prick an ear vein and all it takes is a drop of blood for the reading. I know my cat Charlie would have died if I had listened to the vet re...

Re: Aggressive Bone Tumor, vet says only "2 months left"
I concur with what everyone else has said especially Carol regarding if the vet did chest rads to see if the tumor has metasized and then also a biopsy to determine the grade or stage. I can tell that right now I have 2 cats with cancer. Junipurr who is FeLV + had a mediastinal tumor which was aroun...

Re: 10 months since Lucy's accident
My Junipurr would pee on my bed. She is my FeLV + cat who is on chemo due to mediastinal tumor that was around her heart. What I did since I sleep there is put a shower curtain on top of the blanket and then put a mattress pad over it. This works fine so I am not washing blankets and sheets all the ...

Re: UPDATE -- Urgent help needed
I have not had experience with E-Coli but in terms of an appetite stimulant you may want to try remeron, also known as mirtazapine which is given every 3rd day. Diana
