Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Hi Mikaela, I'm not sure I understand your question, feel free to clarify. I'm not saying amputation is not an option if this is the vet's recommendation. We were recommended to amputate the tail as well with the reasons that he doesn't have feeling in his tail and if it gets stuck somewhere he woul...

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Hello, Definitely you could see if there is a medication your vet recommends to ease the bladder expression. Gosha was on prazosin for a period of time but we found that we could express him well without it so he eventually got off the medication. I believe it is supposed to relax the sphincter, but...

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Hi Luney, if you can learn how to express his bladder at home this will give you more time to make a decision and see how he recovers. My cat did not regain urinary function (he can urinate a small amount on his own but cannot fully empty his bladder so we have to express him 4x day) but we learned ...

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Thanks Critters for your response. Gosha is on Prazosin, Gabapentin, Miralax and psyllium husk powder. He is dragging his tail and we were advised by the vet that it's probably not going to improve especially given the hair loss and we should amputate, but we are hoping we can wait because this whol...

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
I am posting an update in case anyone experiences this type of issue in the future and is searching for advice like I did after Gosha got in his accident, and for those of you who were so kind to comment on my original post! It has been about 2.5 months since sweet Goshie was hit by a car, causing a...

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
How long did it take for him to pee on his own, and what was the source of his injury? I'm sorry that he developed the neurogenic spasm. Is Buddy still around today>

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Critters, you mentioned your cat Buddy and I saw in another thread that Buddy eventually recovered. Was he able to urinate on his own eventually, and if so, how long did it take?

Re: Cat: broken pelvis+tail, eating+pee+poo problems, I'm scared
Hi there, I read your posts as well as your blog regarding Erasmus. What a lovely kitty he was and owners you were to take care of him! My cat Gosha has a similar injury, and from my research online, this seems to be somewhat rare as you are the *only* other person I could find with a similar story!...

Re: Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Hi all, thanks for your encouraging responses. Gosha is on Prazosin to help with urination/expressing the bladder, as well as Miralax and psyllium husk powder for loosening the stool. He's also on Gabapentin for pain and we'll be weaning him off Buprenorphine soon. Are there any specific medications...

Cat Tail Pull Injury & Urination
Hi all, I learned about this forum from a blog poster that found it really helpful and am hoping to connect with others who have relevant experience. We found our 11 year old kitty Gosha after he was likely hit by a car. He was diagnosed with "sacral-iliac laxations on both sides and separation...
