Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

He does indeed have a UTI, we are on antibiotics for 7 days and then a urine recheck. If there is still bacteria we will ultrasound for stones. He has been on the antibiotic since Monday night, and today he finally ate a whole bowl of food (half kibble half chicken and rice). He is reluctant to drin...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

The vet tech said something similar, that he probably isn't emptying all the way. We have been taking him out 3x a day, but are thinking about trying more often? He really hates when we try to express him (but hasnt had an issue with the vets doing it :| ) I am going to try and stay calm through the...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

The ER here is also the rehab center Bacio is going to do his therapy at, so he has been there a couple times now. I spoke with with vet tech that handled him during his therapy consult (the guy who was holding him while Bacio pooped in his arms). I reiterated that I was concerned because the vet wo...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Man oh man, we thought we were getting out of the woods, and then today he peed blood. The ER I called said that he more than likely has a UTI and that of he is eating and drinking normally I can wait until monday to see the regular vet. I am still so very worried. He was acting so playful and rambu...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Just a quick update, Bacio is starting to recover some mobility, we are going to start acupuncture tomorrow, and then after this week we will be doing both therapy and acupuncture once a week for at least 5 weeks. We have home exercises for him that he mostly tolerates. He is still very growly and s...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Yes I tried to figure something out but I dont feel hos bladder yet so I have to watch to see when the stream starts. I will figure it out eventually. Thanks to your help I am getting more confident and caring for him is not necessarily easier, but becoming more routine. We just got to our therapy c...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

They did not give him anything for UTI, he did not have trouble be expressed at the vet, and didnt show signs of aggression there. As a tag team we've expressed him twice now. Once we get him started it shoots right out (all over... ALL OVER). One of us gently holds his head and tries to calm him an...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

So, I called the vet about the pain on Wednesday, and they decided to stop the tramadol and switch him to hydromorphone. He still reacts aggressively even with that when I try to help lift him or express him. I sat on my living room floor and cried yesterday, I questioned my decisions and doubted my...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Honestly I was thinking the same. The vet is supposed to call me back. He is very sweet and loving if i am just laying down with him. No aggression at all. I am cautious now when I put the diapers on but he hasnt gotten mad about that yet. But he also hasnt eaten much. A few bites of chicken and a B...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

The vet yesterday said she thinks he had an FCE and that judging by how much he has started to regain function she now thinks he has a good shot of regaining some mobility. He had feeling in his toes yesterday. The vets did not have any issues with him trying to bite so they didn't believe he was in...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Thanks, we are figuring out how to carry him and reduce the stress on him and us. He has lost some weight but he still weighs about half of what I weigh so you can imagine my back has been a little sore. But everyday we learn something to make it easier. The last 24 hrs he has started to hate the he...

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Thank you so much for the tips. I have been highly emotional since this all happened and all the responses are so thorough and encouraging that I get all teared up every time. You guys have made me feel like I can really do this and that we are going to be fine... eventually.

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

We decided to stick to the routine as much as possible and this morning I took him out to the balcony to let him "go out". Last night I refrained from the carprofen as the vet said as necessary and I didn't want to give it to him if he wasn't in pain (and to ask a previous question, yes th...

oh! One other thing... How do you guys do this solo? With two people it is hard, but I am dreading dealing with this by myself tomorrow while my partner is working.

Re: Walking to paralyzed in 24 hours. Advice please.

Thank you so much for the thourough reply. The doctor from the ER said during his physical exam he was deep pain negative and because they don't know how long he was like that he was not a good candidate for surgery. By the time we got to the 3rd vet he was no longer responding to them touching his ...
