Re: Older dog post amputation
Hi there, Not necessarily. Yes, we do watch her weight, but that said, we do not use senior diets here. We actually have done the reverse and put her on a high protein diet to preserve muscle mass. It has to do with less ability to move the hips, so they are more rigid as they stand which means thei...

Re: Snuggle Safe Warning!!
It boggles the mind that some people would want to interfere in my relationship with the producers of Snuggle Safes by seeing their production banned. Do you receive compensation, then, for using and defending the product? If not, why on earth would you prioritize your 'relationship' over the lives...

Re: Older dog post amputation
Hi Jimfuy, As someone with large-breed dogs, and one who is also 12, I can say that there is stress on their wrists and elbows in the front as they age, even if like mine they have all four legs. I would monitor your dogs' front legs carefully to see how they are doing adapting to the weight-bearing...

Re: Did we wait to long to try and walk
Hi there and welcome. I hope your pup has improved. I have nothing to add other than CarolC has explained the process beautifully and is very knowledgeable.

It boggles the mind that they would continue making and selling such a dangerous product.

Re: FECAL INCONTINENT KITTEN
Hi there, Thank you so much for saving this little one. Bendy is truly the expert here. I also have and have had Manx cats. The one I have now has no tail at all, not even a stump. She can leak a bit, too. They key is to make sure they are not constipated. The leaking is deceptive but it can actuall...

Re: Mystery paralysis
I am so incredibly sorry for you and your sister. What a beautiful way to set him free. He was surrounded by the people he loved, at home on the farm. This thread, and Robin's legacy, will be too encourage others who have similar problems to reach out for support and to advocate for their dog. One d...

You have fought so hard for him. Take heart in knowing that you have gone above and beyond for your little man. You and your sister are truly the best kind of people there are.

Re: Mystery paralysis
The part about him crying when not being held broke my heart. He loves and trusts you with all his whole being. He knows you are doing everything you can for him. Please do not feel like you have failed. Sometimes, it is beyond our control, and no matter how much money we have, or how many treatment...

Re: Mystery paralysis
I agree with Carol. Nothing about this case makes any sense. I am trying to think outside the box. I know that in Ontario this year, there have been an abundance of ticks. Monstrous amounts in fact. Is it at all possible he was bitten by a tick and has tick paralysis? http://www.pethealthnetwork.com...

Re: Mystery paralysis
I was wondering about Coonhound Paralysis myself. The only other time I have heard of it was in a JRT. Eventually, she did recover. Have you spoken to the vets about this?

Re: battle scars are getting to me
I am just coming to this now, but it is a timely one for me. I, too, am suffering from caregiver burnout. The losses are harder and harder. Worse, though, sadly, are the people involved in rescues. The ones who ask you to take a dog, then want it back. The ones who expect you to clean up other peopl...

Re: Mystery paralysis
I would add to CarolC's excellent post that there is the Farley Foundation in Ontario to qualified recipients. Veterinary care for small animals is certainly not cheap. Crazily enough, the same diagnostics are cheaper in large medicine and the animals can be huge.
