Re: Congenital buckled spine
I will check on those mats. Before I used comforters, I bought 3x5 rolls of indoor/outdoor carpet. He yanked at the threads and unraveled them. The floor mats might work better.

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Milo topped out at 40 lbs and stayed there. It's a blessing for me because I can lift him when I'm in a hurry instead of rolling in the patient lift, though if no one else is available to aim his back legs for the leg loops on the wheelchair I can do it myself with the lift. He produces a prodigious...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Last year at this time Milo was barely two months old and not mobile, so he's never seen snow. Snowstorms are rare in southern Tennessee, so when the world was white this morning I was determined to take Milo out and introduce him to every Pyr's favorite fluffy stuff. He was completely uninterested,...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
@ Critters. I am prone to accidents and slapstick comedy, it's just that now it is serving a purpose by loosening up those frozen joints and muscles.

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Since his hips are tilted, the leg with movement is just kicking at air. The stiff leg sometimes is gets stuck upright when I'm putting him into the chair and will bear some weight, but it's probably not comfortable and doesn't have movement. I let him walk in the wheelchair without stirrups unless ...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Milo is a little shorter in length than a normal one year old due to the kyphotic spine. His legs are as long as a one year old, but his weight is only 40 lbs whereas a fully muscled one year old would be closer to 80. We had to buy longer struts and bigger wheels for his wheelchair and he loves it!...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
I contacted her on Facebook and sent Milo's x-ray and wheelchair video. Offered to compare notes on Benny & Milo and to tell her how he's doing now at 10 months. Holy moley, I've had Milo 10 months! Time sure does fly.

Re: Congenital buckled spine
For most day to day tasks, the range of motion I have is good enough and doesn't hurt much. Trying to lift a 40 lb bag of dog food, reaching overhead, or very far backward does hurt. It's not excruciating, but annoying. The break was so close to the shoulder joint that it's considered a shoulder inj...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
I changed my PT sessions from 3x week to 2x week and have a list of shoulder exercises I can do at home on the off days. Hopefully I can get it close enough to continue on my own until range of motion is closer to normal. I originally found an Invacare model on Amazon that was only $314, but my husb...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Soon after my last post, the physically fit volunteers who were supposed to make sure Milo gets in his wheelchair twice a day pooped out on me. He spent most of the last two months on my bed and only was in his wheelchair a handful of times. My arm is out of the sling and I'm in physical therapy. Ha...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
The bone is still aligned because it doesn't hurt unless I jolt it or balance something on that hand over a couple pounds. I can now juggle a cup of coffee in that hand without pain! I banged the heck out of the forearm on the BAD arm, thus the five minutes concentrating on breathing. Forearm was ok...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
It doesn't hurt as much, but three weeks is too short. Going Thursday for an x-ray so he can tell me it's mending, but I'm sure the sling is here to stay awhile. Nerve pain in the elbow and forearm, sometimes extending to the wrist or shoulder. My husband has Gabapentin for his nerve pain, so he's s...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Awww!! I'm glad you found a way to sleep that y'all can both live with. That seems SO weird about the green stuff. I think I'd try a few more green things to see if that's it. My Bo doesn't like plastic bottles because of the noise they make, and he never has (but he's only 1 1/2). I guess gr...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
BTW, I moved the recliner to sleep right beside the bed last night and Milo slept on the bed beside my chair. He could see me, touch me, and get his evening Sumo play with my owie arm safely far away from his pouncing paws. Wish I could have held the camera to take his picture. Biggest smiley face I...

Re: Congenital buckled spine
Neck isn't an issue, but the week before I broke my arm I was diagnosed with a bone spur in my other shoulder. It wasn't from all the lifting I do around the farm, but from spending three months at the computer with my legs turned to the left and my torso and arm twisted to the right when I traded m...
