Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Just checking in with another update. Sandy has healed after having her eyes removed and is flourishing in her new foster home. There are other animals there that serve has her new family, and they get along great. Here is a photo, and then two links for short videos. noEyes.jpg Feeding: https://www...

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Wow, what an amazing video. I'm stunned that the cat didn't bump into things and was always able to retrieve the toy. I had no idea blind cats could rely so much on hearing to get around. It makes me glad that I didn't put Sandy down at the vet.

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

I looked at link link for these blind kittens and now I'm understanding that this situation is a little more common than I realized. It's so sad, but I'm glad to see they all appear to still live a decent life. Thanks for posting. Why don't we ever see these types of eye infections in humans? I have...

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Just checking in to offer an update. Sandy had her eyes removed today at the vet. The animal rescue that took her said she is doing well and starting to eat wet food on her own by lapping it up with her tongue. Still no movement with her jaw. I would post a photo here, but it's a little disturbing s...

Thanks CarolC! I'll never forget Fefe. She was an amazing cat and a photo of her is now the desktop wallpaper on my computer.

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Thanks everyone for the suggested rescues that may take Sandy. I have added them to a list on my computer for future reference. That is because I found an organization on Facebook who can help. I will be taking Sandy to Tremonton this weekend. LoreleisLegacy.org I don't know what Sandy's future hold...

critters wrote: Thu Oct 14, 2021 7:32 am I'm wondering if her refusal to eat by herself could be learned behavior at this point?
Except she will join the other cats at the feeding dish in the mornings to lap up raw egg. I will try again tonight to see if she will lap up fish smoothie from a plate.

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

It's now been two months since Sandy and Fefe were attacked by the coyote. I've tried my best to take good care of her, including feeding her by bottle twice per day. The condition of her eyes vary by the day. Sometimes they look good, other days they require a gently cleaning with a clean washcloth...

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Okay thanks CarolC. I wonder why the default can't be changed so that the forum always excepts larger sized videos, instead of having a time limitation and then reverting back to the smaller size. Anyway, I'll try to get another photo of Sandy posted soon that supports the larger size. I'm so happy ...

Can ulceration eventually heal? I assume the answer is yes. And what causes ulceration? Is there a human equivalent of this condition?

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Okay, it took a while, but I think I got three fairly good photos that show Sandy's eyes. One is clearly larger than the other, but at least it doesn't look inflamed like it once did. Comments? Also, who set the size limit for uploading photos? 300KB is terribly small in modern times. I had to crop ...

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Just a quick update on Sandy... Last Wednesday I went into town to get groceries. I stopped by Tractor Supply to get some of the antibiotics recommended earlier on this forum post. I read the insert and was stunned. There in big bold letters was the company admitting their product may make Sandy sev...

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Thank you for the suggestion CarolC. I'll go to Dollar Tree tomorrow when I head into town and get one of those bottles.

Other than Terramycin, I guess I'll hold off buying any other general antibiotic for now and just continue my efforts dispensing colloidal silver.

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

Has anyone had success using a bottle to feed a cat? I bought some human baby bottles from Walmart and made the cut in the nipple bigger, since her mackerel smoothie is thicker than regular milk. But she really had a hard time learning the concept of sucking. I tried it once and gave up. Maybe I sho...

Re: The dreaded coyote attack

CarolC, another question for you. When Betsy was still alive and blind, did she have to have her eyes removed? What determines if they have to come out, versus staying in and just not being able to make use of them?

Thanks!
