Re: urethra and intestine connected possibly?
Hi alicston, That's really good that the surgeon has some actual experience with a fistula in a dog. I don't know what I'm talking about here, this is 100% a layperson talking out loud. I was trying to see how they image a fistula in humans and got 3 different answers. One said an MRI, one said a CT...

What it looks like when...
you cut all the elastic off your disposable male wraps and hang them up for a week to air out the overpowering plastic smell.....   male_wraps_airing.JPG P.S. Chewy gave me a refund after reading my 2 star review, and I didn't even ask for one. That was nice of them as it was a pa...

Disposable malewraps frustration
I thought I would try the convenience of disposable malewraps. I have tried 2 brands. They make them with elastic along the sides. That might be fine for an active dog that walks, but they DO NOT WORK for a dog that is bedfast and lies down all day. As soon as he curls up, the elastic sides come clo...

Re: Pip diagnosis - Central cord syndrome
I noticed he was constipated after his neurology appointment May 16, and thought maybe it was the prednisone. Then he was constipated again after the May 23 appointment, and by then he was on less prednisone (tapering). In each case he had to be fasted before the appointment, so that might have thro...

Re: Pip diagnosis - Central cord syndrome
The imaging report says
A dens type structure is present but appears dysplastic (abnormally shaped); this could be secondary to a congenital malformation or trauma.

Imaging yesterday
Pip had a CT yesterday. He has more compression than expected. He did OK with the anaesthesia, except he regurgitated twice. The first time he was still intubated so that should be OK, but the second time was when they were removing the tube, so the neurologist called in Clavamox to prevent aspirati...

Re: Cute pics of diaper on Manx cat
I think the strap around the neck would chafe every time he tried to lick somewhere on his body. Some cats would be scratching at the neck strap trying to get rid of it, but he looks happy enough. If he accidentally hooks the side of the diaper on something while rubbing against furniture, appliance...

Re: Pip diagnosis - Central cord syndrome
I found an example in human medicine of dyspnea and dysphagia related to C1-C2 compression, not to the brain stem as in a previous article I quoted. Pip has both (trouble breathing and trouble swallowing). we experienced a case of dyspnea and dysphagia after posterior C1-C2 fusion. [skip] So we did ...

Found this
In Pip's case the dens is missing, and that is often congenital in chihuahuas.https://web.archive.org/web/20150803071013/https://www.fortheloveofmiabella.com/ wrote: Clinical signs may be more severe with an intact dens, as a normal but dorsally deviated dens causes a greater degree of spinal compression.

Neurology appointment
Still don't have all the answers I'm looking for. He is on 0.75 ml gabapentin 2x/day now. If it helps, it will be worth it. Dolly was on 0.5 ml when she got it and she's only 1 lb less than Pip. Gave it to him in some canned food, he ate it. He was hungry. They told me to fast him so he didn't get a...

Finally expressed his bowel after having him 22 months
At long last I finally managed to stimulate Pip to express his bowel. It's not like I haven't tried before. The infant glycerine suppositories came. I put on a glove and coated one with vaseline, and tried...and tried...and tried...and tried...and tried...for no kidding, probably 10 minutes, to get ...

Re: Two No-Knuckling Training Socks?
Hi snguyenx96, I'm not a rehab therapist but I'd think you would want one for each foot for convenience. There is a " Got questions " link in light grey on the web page (kind of hard to see) where you could send in a question. I don't know who fields the questions, but it may be th...

Re: Pip diagnosis - Central cord syndrome
He has a neurology consult Tuesday with a different neurologist (not the one that misdiagnosed him). I was thinking if he needed to stay in the hospital, what a list of special needs he would have. All legitimate. Can't be in a kennel because he springs himself. Can't drink water. Probably shouldn't...
