My three legged dog doesn't do stairs
Hello everybody! Milo, my 7-, almost 8-year-old labrador refuses to do stairs. I know that he can go up and down because whenever we're outside, in the park, he does it without hesitation. We live in an elevator building, but because we may move to a walk-up in the summer, or even now in case of an ...

Re: Help or advice please
Hello,
If it's any consolation, my dog still falls over quite often 2.5 years after amputation - he may trip, try to walk faster than his legs can, when he thinks he can lean on a bush to pee, and when he is wet and goes up the (tile) stairs.

Re: boxer lost his leg today
Hi Kristi, Regarding the pain meds, you don't have to finish them, but (my personal opinion) if you want to keep him quiet during the night, you can give it to him for the first 3 or 4 nights, since they will also make him a little drowsy ;). My dog still loves to swim and it's so amazing how he use...

It's been rough for Boomer, for sure. I assume that his recovery will be different from my experience, since he has the added stress of the stomach surgery. Here's my opinion on some of your questions: 1) If you read the thread from trishny, her dog hid in her closet for a couple of weeks. The vet s...

Hi Kevin If he lost his leg recently (less than a year), bare floors (without carpet or mats) may be too slippery for him. If it's been longer than that, then I'm sure he has adjusted. Just make sure he does not get fat. You will see that he does just as well as any other dog, except that he may be ...

Hi Lucy's Mom, I think that as long as she does not lick the incision and she's comfortable, you should be able to leave her alone after the 3rd or 4th day, but it also seems to be a matter of personal preference and flexibility from work. I'm a student and my dog lost his leg in the summer, so I wa...

Hello tinklebell, You've come to the right place. Our beloved pets have gone through amputation for different reasons, and none of us have regretted the decision. Sasha will be fine. She will adapt so much faster than you probably will. You already know how amazing she is and she will amaze you even...

Hi Guster's mom, The first few days (maybe up to 5 days), Guster will be constipated. Regular floors (tile, hardwood) are slippery for them, so just imagine how bad ice would be. So as long as he does not have to walk on ice (if that is ever an issue, I've never been in MN), he WILL be fine. It took...

Hello Mike, Everybody second-guesses the decision to go ahead with the amputation, but given the alternatives, it is THE best decision you can make. The first few days are hard, but eventually it becomes normal. I don't notice anymore that Milo has 3 legs. When I'm walking with him and people stare ...

jsnkrogers05, Besides the pain from the operation, Shakei will be a little slower and get tired faster in the next few weeks. She might not be herself for a few weeks because of the trauma, but it should be temporary. You will see a dramatic change when the vet removes the staples. Our vet recommend...
