Re: The road from loss to healing......

She is beautiful. I too afetr losing my Mason found a sick homeless little dog in a shelter and adopted him. He was 4 days away from being killed. I fell in love with Teddy by looking at his picture every day on dogs in danger. My husband told me no I could not have him. I went against what he told...

The road from loss to healing......

Some of you may remember me and my sweet Chloe, misdiagnosed with DM when what she really had was degenerative arthritis in her hips and spine... a condition we could have been effectively treating with acupunture and chinese herbs, affording her continued mobility for the final four years of her li...

Re: A final farewell to Chloe....

Carol, I am so very sorry to hear about Chloe's passing! I do unfortunately understand the devastating heartbreak. Oh Jeanne, how lovely to hear from you and know that you are still standing after the devestating loss of your sweet Angelo. I have thought of you so often, and I still have Angelo's p...

Re: Effective treatment for degenerative arthritis

The test is 100% accurate for finding the pair of genes that the dog needs to get DM, true. But not all dogs with the genes for DM will get DM. Some live to 15 or 16 without showing signs despite having the genes. And some may have the genes and have the diagnosis in their future but not have DM ye...

Re: Effective treatment for degenerative arthritis

We've had vets tell people DM doesn't occur in corgis! (Corgis are one of the leading breeds that get DM.) So a vet saying it doesn't occur in German Shorthairs (or saying it does) is not at all surprising. The genes for DM have been found in many breeds but the disease has not been confirmed in al...

Re: Effective treatment for degenerative arthritis

DM is found in many, many breeds though is only common in a few. According to both my current vets, it is NOT found in German Shorthairs, which my Chloe was. Her previous vets should have known that. It makes me angry that she did not get proper treatment for the condition she DID have in its early...

My Chloe... a fi...

Re: A final farewell to Chloe....

Many thanks to all for all the compassionate and heart-warmng responses to my final post on Chloe's passing. It was very peaceful and gentle, and now she is free. All that's left is for me to grieve, and I have been doing so. My heart breaks with missing her physical presence, and old habits die har...

A final farewell to Chloe....

I just wanted to let you know that I must say my final goodbyes to my sweet Chloe this morning. The vet is coming to the house at 9 A.M. to give her a smooth and gentle, painless crossing. I thank Betsey Hartman from the bottom of my heart for her won- derful invention (The Hartman Harness) that gav...

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/arthritis___joint_disease_cent.html Yes, arthritis of the hips and spine bothers my dog, too. You may like the above website. I have seen the tandem leash piece you described, I think I can picture what you are doing around the neck and that is a good idea. Do you al...

Re: DM? Or something else altogether...!!!!

I was trying to explain to DocsMom how you made an extension for the Hartman but I'm not really clear on it. She was asking about it in the following thread. Do you think you could explain better? Hi Carol! The Hartman Harness worked perfectly for Chloe once we got it fitted correctly upon receivin...
