Re: Does this sound like a seizure?
We'll give the vet a call this morning. I was just not able to find much on the internet about this type of seizure or whether or not it was really a seizure. He's still a bit tired this morning but ate his breakfast fine. He's never really been a morning dog, so being tired doesn't tell me much. We...

Does this sound like a seizure?
My collie/retriever mix Copper had some sort of episode tonight that I've seen one other time with him. The first time was last Spring. I think it could be a seizure but there are not convulsions. Does a seizure always include convulsions or shaking movements? He seems to know when they are coming a...

Re: FCE care advice
Cute picture of Keeka. Can she get herself in that position even now? I have to agree with everyone that I don't think you can over expoit a reflex. Did you get a chance to ask the vet about that? I hope she is having a good week. Is Bella doing any better? Bella's symptoms sound pretty different fr...

Ahh, I always wonder about Bully! Thanks for the update. You and Bully were such inspirations to us as we went through our FCE recovery.

Re: FCE care advice
OOps. I guess I should of clarified that I meant pinching the skin between her toe pads with your fingers...not pliers! Ouch! As long as you trust she won't bite you if she feels something, I don't think you can hurt her. Annoy her yes but not hurt her. However, if you don't get a reaction o...

Re: FCE care advice
Sounds like you are doing all the right things. It is hard work, I know, but worth it! I agree with Caroline. I don't know what kind of time frame or if there truly is a time frame for deep pain sensation. You can test it yourself by pinching in between Keeka's foot pads. You'll have to pinch really...

Re: FCE care advice
Hello! My golden retriever mix, Copper had an FCE in October of 2007. He's now up and running. He does have some lingering deficits in his rear legs but he's quite happy. We found water therapy the most helpful for his recovery. Is there any place close by that does water treadmill or swim therapy f...

Re: TTA surgery vs TPLO for torn ACL
Thanks for the link on the yahoo group! They have been most helpful and there is tons of information available there. We pretty much have to go with TPLO as there not any vets close by that do TTA. It seems that the results and cost are similar anyway.

TTA surgery vs TPLO for torn ACL
My collie/retriever mix, Copper has a torn ACL and after doing some searching on the internet we have basically come up with 2 possible surgeries, TPLO and TTA. My vet recommended TPLO but didn't mention TTA. I'm not sure if Copper is not a candidate for TTA surgery or if my vet was just not familia...

Re: FCE - urgent help needed
My now 6 year old collie/retriever mix had a FCE about a year ago. It was 10 days before we saw any movement, he was paralyzed in his rear legs too. Now he walks, runs and plays ball constantly. He isn't 100% but he is happy and we live a normal life. If I had to do it all over again, I would. It wa...

Re: Bully - A Blast From the Past
So good to hear that Bully bounced back! We were hoping you would post soon. I bet Bully was pretty proud of himself with that opposum. :trophy: It seems Copper is trying to keep up with him. It has been almost a year since his FCE and massive staph infection. He was walking great and running with h...

Re: Help With FCE
We all know that feeling of being overwhelmed but things will become more manageble with time. If I ever had to do this again (god forbid!) I wouldn't blink an eye and do it all over. It was worth every second and every cent I spent. Our life is mostly normal now, normal for us anyway :P . Expressin...

Re: Help With FCE
You have come to the right place. So many people helped us through our FCE including Bully and Poohbear's moms. My dog Copper was paralyzed in his rear legs almost a year ago. Hang in there! It does get easier. Once you establish a routine, things fall into place. The important thing is time. Most d...
