Hi Stephanie,
Glad to hear that your baby is making progress!!
I have had good experiences with both the E-Stim and accupuncture. Both were used after his surgeries. Not sure if you are located anywhere near West Lafayette Indiana but I went to Pets and Vets as Partners Rehab.
Take Care!!

Re: My skippy has IVDD
I am so sorry that Skipper is going through this, but it does sound like he is doing well. You have gotten some great advice already, just thought that I would add a bit as well on the seperation anxiety front. my Samy had major issues from puppy on with seperation (repetitive behaviors, etc) and it...

Re: Buddy is still at the vet!
Hi Buddy's mom. I know this is difficult time having your baby away from you, and wanted to share with you my experience. After Samy's first surgery he was sent home at 36hrs post op. I was told he coudl urinate (but he was only dribbling) and having no pain. He was unable to support himself to walk...

Re: advise needed.. really worried
Hi Chanel, The Electrical Stimulation Therapy would be correct. I really felt it benefited Samy during recovery. I am going to jump in on this one with the suggestion about not getting upset in front of your pup as it has to do with how they interpret your upset. Often times they will think that you...

Re: MY DOGS HIND QUARTERS
Hi! I would agree that it is most imporant to determine the reason for Uey's weakness and coordination problem In that way you will be better able to intervene accordingly. In the interim, you may want to use a harness or sling to support his backend on uneven surfaces. Please keep us posted...... K...

Re: advise needed.. really worried
Hi Chanel, It sounds as if you have done all the right things for your baby to optimize his recovery. He is lucky to have such a great mom! As so many folks here will attest there just is no timetable as to how a dog will improve, and sadly no guarantee that they will meaning walk again. But, as you...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare
I am so glad that your baby is home, and can relate to the Twilight zone feeling of what this next phase of care brings. I word of caution from my experience. After Samy's first surgery I was told he was urinating (36hrs post-op when they discharged him). The vet tech said that if I needed to expres...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare
Your love for Dasani is so apparent in your words, he is so fortunate to have such a good mom!! It sounds like he is doing well all considered, and I can only surmise that since this is a spinal cord "injury" swelling etc. Dasani will likley have to be on crate rest for a period of time. W...

Re: help needed
Hi Stephanie, As many here have I my pup Samy has gone through crate rest very successfully. Typically the period of 6-8 weeks is sufficient to allow a disc/spinal cord injury to heal. Crat erest is strict only out for potty, and even then support the rear with a harness (or towel etc) It sounds lik...

Re: Rescue dog and IVDD dog
Yes this would have to be a slow process. The only other dog aside from Rory that he has been around was when I watched my friends sheltie Big Sam (who was 13 and very well behaved). The first few days were a nighmare, but short exposure periods of Samy to Big Sam (yes you can imagine how insteresti...

Rescue dog and IVDD dog
I have been giving some consideration to adopting another dog in the next few months and would like to get a rescue dog, likely one with special needs. My fear is this: Samy is not good with other dogs. He was with Rory his whole life and was fine with her but I have concerns over how the introducti...

Re: new and lost- questions on crate rest
I can so understand your shock, I experienced a similar reaction when Samy went down each time, with no obvious injury. As difficult as it is, try not to project too far into the future about how you will handle all of this. It does seem overwhelming, but I promise you that once you get into a routi...
