Re: Quality of Life - Is it time

Thank you all for the caring responses. Odd how thing work....after I posted, Berk started to show signs of a returning urinary track infection and progressively had pain. We got her back on major antibiotics and increased her pain meds and seeing her in pain helped me decide it's time. My dad was j...

Quality of Life - Is it time

Hi all - I'm afraid it's time for us to do the right thing for our baby girl but wanted to get some feedback from this group - many of you have helped us through the hard times with our boy, Bear (Bone cancer at age 11; amputation; severe arthritis & cart questions) and with our girl, Berk. Abou...

Re: need help with tough decision

Hi guys - I haven't been on this board since we lost our Bear to bone cancer (amputation, arthritis, eddie's wheels for 9 months then it was quick and we knew what we had to do). Decided to check things out because like you, we have our Berk (shepard chow mix at 15 1/2 yrs) who had fce, acl, arthrit...

Re: Moving to a high rise apartment?

Thank you so much for all the great ideas! We actually have a cart that we just tried to reconfigure for Berk (it was for Bear who is no longer with us - Cancer) ;-( Berk seems to like the cart, but we'll take it slow.....we will also look into the sling with a pad on it -- sounds like that could re...

Moving to a high rise apartment?

Hi all - we are downsizing and are excited about moving out of a townhouse and move to a high-rise in the city but just realized it might not be the best thing for Berkeley, our 13 year old shepard/chow mix so thought i'd get your thoughts...and help! * Incontinence is partial - no issues if we walk...

Last hope - Neck/neuro problem after osteosarcoma

We'll know by Friday if the Gabapentin/Prednisone/Tramadol makes any difference - if not, vet wants us to make a decision. You guys have given us a lot of support over the past 9 months so I feel the need to post, even though I think I know what the answer will be... Does anyone know of a situation ...

Bear's been on Tramadol for about 5 months now and is down to 2 pills, twice daily. He can't be on tramadol when he's going for a long car ride or he'll get car sick. Otherwise, the two pills calm him down a bit, but not too drowsy where he sleeps -- just not as crazy as he normally is without it ;-)

Caroline - I'm glad today ended up a good day for you afterall. There are a lot of people on this board with experience with arthritis and also a lot online. However, here's some additional info solely from our experience: 1) Neurologists, surgeons, oncologists are very smart vets but they are usual...

HI - Based on our research, the braces are only good if your dog doesn't have stability in her knees due to a current ACL injury, NOT for the resulting arthritis caused by old ACL injuries. I just posted something (Osteosarcoma, Amputation, ARthritis) on this board about our experience. Although Bea...

Osteosarcoma, Amputation & Arthritis - There's Hope!

We just got back from Bear's first long walk today and wanted to thank this board and offer hope to anyone else who might go thru what we just went thru. Thanksgiving, 2007 - Bear was diagnosed with bone cancer. He had a mass on his toe that we thought was just a fatty lump. He was supposed to get h...

Hi there - our Bear is a 10 year old Rot/Hound mix who just had his leg amputated Thanksgiving (osteosarcoma) and unfortunately, this caused his arthritis on the other hind leg get really bad. He's going thru accupuncture and in-home therapy in our hot tub (it's really helping him!) but he still can...

Just went thru it with Bear on Thanksgiving --- it is truly much worse on us that it is with them. Just don't let Gizmo know how you feel and he'll be fine....Good luck!

Bear is waiting for his cart from Eddie'sWheels. We ordered it a week ago and are hoping to get it sometime this weekend. Our Physical Therapist only works with Eddieswheels and so far, the customer service (personal touch!) has been great!

We are looking forward to having Bear run again!

Hot Tub / Jacuzzi experience?

Hi - our dog loves to swim but it's too cold for him to go into the river right now. He has severe osteoarthritis so we're desparately thinking of ways to help him (he also just had a leg amputated for osteosarcoma 6 weeks ago). Anyway, we are thinking of putting him in our hot tub for a swim and so...
