I went through this exact thing with my 16-year old lab recently. His vet did NOT recommend crate rest. We rigged up a couple of contraptions to get him around. You can look at the pictures (and see an e-mail link where yo can e-mail me) at http://www.mojo.claudiaweb.org

Thanks all for the comments and Carol, he has very little leakage. He either urinates when he eats (thankfully very predictable so we make sure the piddle pads are in place) or my husband is able to express his bladder when he is out in the cart. Hi there, I will shortly be posting a new thread. It IS possible to rig up a cart. My 16-year old lab lost all use of his back legs a month ago.
