Any ideas for hardening skin please?

Ralphs used his prosthetic legs for 3 years now, bless but he does get a blister now and then which must be very sore for him. What we need is something to callous up the tender area. He tends to lick it which just softens it and makes it more vulnerable. Anyone know of anything we can use please to...

Re: Hind leg amputee, cruciate damage remaining leg

My dog has a splint on one foot where he has only one pad and one claw. There is a link on here to splints - it may be of help - anything is worth a go, isnt it See which of these supports you think may help in your particular case: http://www.handicappedpets.com/prodwalk.htm http://www.handicappedp...

Any alternative to phenabarbitone

One of our customers knows how I care about dogs - she asked me recently about her 13 year old daschund who has epileptic fits. She says that he is on phenabarbitone but she believes one of the vets gave him much too much once and he was very ill. She is asking whether there is any alternative to th...

Re: Sasha

Oh, I am so so very sorry - your hearts must be breaking.

Please know you did all you can for her and thats all we can do for them - let them know they are safe and loved.

My heart goes out to you.

Little Sasha, run free at the Bridge with my pack and give them a big kiss each from their mum. xxx

Re: Ralph's prosthetics nearly ready!(England)

Hello everyone. Just a further update for you. We were contacted by a television production company making a documentary on disabled pets and how owners have helped them cope with their disabilities. I told them I was happy for Ralph to appear with the doctor but I didnt want my 15 minutes of fame, ...

Re: Ralph's prosthetics nearly ready!(England)

Ive got a lot more pics but the photobucket makes them too small to see the detail - probably me  What I like about the pics is in every one of them that we took Ralph has his tail up or wagging - so obviously not bothered by the legs. In fact yesterday we had to put his lead on because he too...

Re: Ralph's prosthetics nearly ready!(England)

Guys, Im not much good at using photobucket, so I hope you can see these ok. Just back from an hour's walk/run and Ralph whinged when we said it was home time. The pic of him crossing the wooden bridge is heartwarming for us as he usually has to go down to his belly, using his front legs to crawl ac...

Re: Ralph's prosthetics nearly ready!(England)

Hi guys, thanks so much for the kind postings, its very encouraging for us as you probably have all found that non-dog people tend to think you must be mad to do this sort of thing :) Well, things are going quite well. My husband is away for a week at present and Ive not put the prosthetics on for w...

Re: Very frustrated, need help or advice or just to vent

Im so sorry to hear this - you have loved him and helped him all his life so try not to feel too guilty. But there must be a reason for this happening and you need to get the vet to answer the queries you have. The poor boy obviously doesnt want to make you angry and he must feel terrible peeing wit...

Re: Ralph's prosthetics nearly ready!(England)

Just to update in case anyone in the UK with similar probs is following this :). The prosthetics arrived back by post. The weather in England is very hot at the moment and we have only used them on two shortish outings in early evening because we felt it was unwise to put more stress on Ralph in thi...

Re: effects of age on a dog with 3 legs?

Well, her light breed is in her favour - just make sure you feed her carefully so she doesnt increase her weight too much. You may have to walk her less on hard ground but she will be more than happy Im sure to run like a mad thing on grass/parks etc. Go on, you know she will give you love and joy f...

Re: effects of age on a dog with 3 legs?

Dolly, if you have fallen in love with her, take her and care for her the best you can xx Try not to think of 14 years ahead, she will only be thinking of now (if only we humans could do that!). I should imagine amputees have about the same chance of developing other probs as a non amputee dog. Of c...
