Sage and Hunter are at the bridge...
There may be a few people here that remember me and my sweet pups. Sage crossed the bridge 11/22 at the age of 16. With the aid of my kind and supportive Vet, Sage passed peacefully and is now young again at the Bridge. Only days later on 12/01, I watched as Hunter, 15, took his last breath. Losing ...

Paul~
My heart is just aching for you and Auggie right now. Oscar and Hunter went down within a month of each other. It is sooooooo hard to see it happen. You know the drill; you know what to do. Keep that love flowing for your baby Auggie. He will be in my prayers!

Re: handicapped dachshund
Robert,
Is she leaking urine at night? Is that the reason for the diapers? Chances are, once you get the UTI cleared, the leaking will stop. Oscar has been on preventitive antibiotics for 2 1/2 years and has not had a single UTI. Your pup is beautiful...thank you for sharing the pics!

Re: Really disheartened and could use some advice...
I have a dachshund that has undergone two surgeries for IVDD and is doing very well at age 14 1/2. I also have a dachshund that is paralyzed due to IVDD. I would do 100 surgeries if there was even a 20% chance of recovery. While caring for a paralyzed pet is perfectly doable, it is a commitment, and...

Re: New Handicapped Doxie Owner
You are very lucky to have a Vet Tech in the family to help you through this. Did your vet give you steriods? Reducing the swelling in the area is VERY important right now as it is the pressure on the cord from the swelling that may be doing additional damage to the cord. Pain killers? Please join D...

Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) works with dogs. Call your vet for the proper dosage. Does she get car sick if she has eaten and had something to drink? Have you tried different positions/ views in the car? I'm assuming you have her in a crate when you travel. Is it a wire crate? Plastic side? Have you t...

:rainbow: You might want to consider a cart that can run in either legs up or legs down positions; you might use legs up for long walks, for instance, and legs down around the yard. This is how I have handled Oscar. After he began spinal walking, when I did put him in the cart, I left his legs down...
