Re: Harry Cat (2004-2007)
Oh Lisa, I am so, so sorry about Harry Cat. You have been through so much this year. Please, please try not to blame yourself. You are such an amazing care giver to all these needy animals that would not be experiencing life at all if not for you. Even if you had been out there yesterday Harry Cat m...

Re: cruciate injury
Maddi, I am sorry about your dog. Just like Bobbie said you do not always have to go the surgical route (especially with smaller dogs). I have a friend who has a Beagle that is 13 years old and had 2 torn ACL's this past summer. She was told by her vet that immediate surgery was a must. I work at a ...

Re: 11 yr old lab w/limited rear legs mobility
Hi, Are you saying that 2 weeks post cruciate surgery she slipped and that now she is 5 weeks post surgery? I think that 5 weeks post surgery is pretty quick to say that the surgery knee would be solid, did the surgeon tell yo that? Is your dog putting any weight on her legs? Is it possible that the...

Re: Rowdy (1985-2007)
Oh Barbara, I am so, so sorry about the passing of both Rowdy and Gertie. How incredibly hard to lose one cat let alone two in such a short period of time. To read all the things that you were doing for these cats was amazing. I hope that in time you will realize how much you did and that you have n...

Re: Guidance needed on 4-AP aka 4-aminopyridine treatment
Hi Scott, I have a 55 pound dog named Waffles. He has no use of his back legs and no control of his bladder or bowels. He has been using a cart for 2 1/2 years. The brand cart we use is an Eddie's wheels. Great cart and very easy to get Waffles in and out of it. I just slide one arm right under his ...

Re: Needing comfort after putting kitty to sleep
I am so sorry for your loss. Everyone here feels your pain as we all have experienced the intense grief that occurs after the death of an animal. It does sound like your vet was describing myelomalacia. That is the death of the spinal cord and like Cindi said it is fatal and there is no cure for it....

Re: 11yo Lab dx DM but lameness hasn't resolved
Jennifer, Did your vet say anything about a disk issue or spinal stroke? Can your dog urinate and move his bowels on his own? As I was reading your post the first thing I thought of was coonhound paralysis. I live in Southern NJ and I met a dog at hydrotherapy that had it. This dog went down on all ...

Re: Problem Expressing Waffles Bladder
Thanks Critters and Dianne. Critters when you say spasms what do you mean? Waffles for months has been having what I call bladder spasms (because I do not know what else to call them). It can happen when I am expressing him, moving him with a harness or sometimes they happen when he is just sleeping...

Problem Expressing Waffles Bladder
Just wondering if any of you who express your animals bladder have every run into this problem. My dog Waffles has been paralyzed for 2 1/2 years. It took me a long time to learn to express his bladder. The first year I catheterd Waffles until I finally got good at expressing. So it has been 1 1/2 y...

Cat with torn ACL
I have a friend who just found out that her cat has a torn ACL. Has anyone every had this injury with their cat? I know lots of people with dogs and torn ACL but know no cat owners dealing with this injury. Just trying to get some info for her. Unfortunately after blood work the cat is not a good ca...

Re: Any advice would be appreciated
Hi Arthur, My dog Waffles has been paralyzed for over 2 years and has been getting around in an Eddie's Wheels cart. I would highly recommend one. It is very sturdy and easy to use. It fits closely to the body which makes it nice for indoor use. Waffles sometimes bashes into walls with it but I have...

Re: Soooo confused.... please advise
Hi Shani, Waffles has been paralyzed for 2 1/2 years and I have always done a culture except for this last time. I was cathetering Waffles the first year so it was easy to get a sterile sample right out of the catheter. Now that I express him only I do take him to the vet every 3 months and they tak...

Re: Just arrived home from Hospital and have a few questions
Hi, I am sorry about your dog's ruptured disk. My dog Waffles ruptured his disk and had surgery over 2 years ago. Many dogs do walk again after surgery but in Waffles case he is still paralyzed and uses a cart. He is very happy and healthy other then that. I did want to tell you that Waffles did not...
