Re: Drop dead dates are unrealistic

Hi Carol I know what you are saying about drop dead dates. I have spent so much time online reading the medical info on Waffles condition and listening to the vets . The surgeons at Univ. of Penn had him dead the first day. And I mean dead. They told me that he had something called ascending /descen...

Re: I'll Walk In the Rain By Your Side

Hi Carol, That is so exciting that you were walking with your dog. It is very encouraging for me to hear that after 5 months of no deep pain response your little dog is starting to walk again. The vets told me that if there is no deep pain after 4-6 weeks that the chances become much less likely tha...

Re: Beth about expressing

Hi Carol, No I have not had much success expressing Waffles. I can never feel the "balloon" so I'm never quite sure if I am pressing in the right place. Waffles is very uncooperative. I hold his back end up so he can be standing, but in a minute or so he drops his front end to the ground o...

Re: It's fairly new

Hi Carol, No need to apoligize (but thank you). I understood the spirit of your response. It's like when I was telling the doctor at U of Penn that I was hopeful about Waffles because my vet has worked with paralyzed dogs and helped them walk with acupuncture. They looked at me like I was crazy. So ...

Waffles first hydro session

Just wanted to let you all know that I have scheduled Waffles first hydrotherapy session for one week from today (sooner if any cancellations). Thank you all for your support and advice.

Re: Bladder Stones

What kind of bladder stones does your dog have? My dog has urate stones and there is a lot of info on the Dalmatian Club of America, www.thedca.org (I think). I hope this helps.

Pet Therapy

Hi I posted the other day about my newly paralyzed dog Waffles. I was wondering how many of you have tried hydrotherapy and if it helped at all? My vet does not think it is helpful (for paralyzed animals anyway). She thinks it could actually be stressful to a dog that does not like water. I don't re...

Re: Pet Therapy

Murphy's Dad- Thank you for all your advice! I have been on your website-it's great! I love reading all these stories, it gives me so much hope. I am going to try expressing Waffles with my eyes closed, I think that is a great idea. It makes me feel so much better to know that it took you 4 months t...

Thanks Liz-
Are you happy with your Eddie's wheels? Did your dog take to them right away? Thanks again

Come on--tell me how you really feel!

Wow !! As soon as I finished reading Carol's response I ran to the phone and called the PetPT (all those capitol letters!) LOL. I am waiting to hear back from them. I don't know why my vet feels the way she does about hydrotherapy but obviously I have to ask. The funny thing is she is a holistic vet...

Re: Pet Therapy

Thank you Judy for the advice. Actually when I move Waffles with a towel in front of his hind leggs this is about the only time any urine comes out so maybe some variation of your method may help. I agree that I have nothing to lose by trying hydrotherapy so I will do it. Thanks again!

My Newly Paralyzed Dog

Hello all - I've just discovered this board in the last week and it's already helped to know there are other people out there going through the same things that we are. My dog Waffles is a 60 lb. pit bull/ doberman. He had surgery 5 weeks ago for a ruptured disc. He went into the surgery with no hin...

thank you all

Thank you all for your responses! I'm usually the kind of person who is to shy to participate on any kind of disscussion boards but I knew this would really help me and my dog. When all you hear is negative things from the vets it is so uplifting to read about people's personal experiences that turn...

Thank you Anita, the article is very helpful. I will also try the chicken broth ice cubes.
