Re: Hemivertebrae-Future?
First of all, I have to say how great it is that you were able to give Emma a home. She is just adorable. Not many people are kind enough, or understand the joys of having a special needs dog. I don't have a lot of information for you, but maybe some hope. I rescued a 10 week old schnauzer with a si...

Hello, I'm crossposting this for Lake County animal services in Tavares, FL which is in central Florida. Chico is a 4 year old, black and tan purebred dachsund who is paralyzed in the hind end. His elderly owner could no longer care for him, so Chico is now at animal services. I believe his paralysi...

Re: food for incontience puppy
Hi, Orijen is good food, but I've found not good for the incontinent ones. It's too high protein for a normal dog, it's better to use for working dogs, sporting dogs, dogs that are physically active every day. You should be feeding a dry food with plenty of healthy grains (brown rice, oats, etc.) to...

Re: 6 week old puppy with spinal damage. Help please!
Hi, Whatever you do, please don't give up without at least getting a second opinion from a vet who at least has treated paralyzed dogs. There are many vets who do not have experience with these types of animals, and can have a narrow view on the care of them, so I urge you to find a vet in your area...

Re: Paralyzed kitten in Tavares, FL urgent***
Hello, Sorry for the lax in update. I've had a medical situation with one of my former foster dogs that has consumed me. The kitten is now with the vet waiting for surgery. The vet just got him tonight so I'm guessing surgery will be tomorrow, and he'll be there a week. I visited him at the shelter,...

Re: Paralyzed kitten in Tavares, FL urgent***
Hi, That's exactly what I was wondering. So I'm going to the shelter today to see if they'll let me try to express him. I'm also bringing him some A & D for his little rash on his bum. Denise said he sort of leaks all of the time, so the shelter thinks he can go on his own. But my experience tel...

Re: Paralyzed kitten in Tavares, FL urgent***
Hi, Quick update about the kitty. The kitten is believed to be a male, but not 100 % certain as Denise, the contact wasn't able to get a good look at the kitty before leaving the shelter. Denise has come through though and bought the kitten at least a week. The direction of his legs prevent him from...

Re: Paralyzed kitten in Tavares, FL urgent***
PooMaggie, Christine is correct that I do not know the sex of the kitten, and that is why I referred to it as an "it". In my haste to attempt to find rescue, I did not find out if the kitten was a he or a she. I didn't want to mislead anyone to thinking that it was a he or she when in fact...

Trace protein in urine of paralyzed doggie
Hi, My baby Precious will be 5 years old January 1, 2012, which is a milestone for us, as Precious was born with a cogenital spinal defect that left her with no feeling below her mid back, severe scoliosis of the spine, the inability to use her back legs, urine and fecally incontinent, and a splayin...

Re: Using UTI at home test for dogs
Hi, Thanks for the suggestion, I ordered some of those strips, haven't used them yet, though. Still haven't made it to the vet yet, am currently fostering a dog that gets about 3 hours of physical therapy a day for a dislocated hip injury. With her specialty vet visits, we haven't had time to make i...

Re: Just saying.....
Thanks for all the support, It is amazing how much people are willing to spend on something, but are so unwilling to show compassion to another living thing. I just usually ignore it, just at my sister's wedding, I had Precious at the reception, running around in her cart, and family made comments t...

Hi, I just had to ask why do some people so dislike the idea of a disabled animal, that they criticize you for spending your time taking care of a disabled animal? I take care of my Precious, an almost 4 year old, 7 lbs miniature schnauzer born with a congenital defect that prevents her from using h...
