Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis-FCE - how to pre

It's been years since I've come by here and wanted to update on the life well lived of our precious Mini Schnauzer, Dasani. We had to say goodbye to the best little soul to ever grace our lives, on July 18, 2018. We are so lucky to have had so many wonderful, amazing years with Dasani. He was 14 yea...

He gets around just fine, his front left paw moves different than the rest, but even at a year out, there is still healing!!! Don't believe what you hear about...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis-FCE - how to prepare

I wanted to update and let everyone know that Dasani is doing really well. We walk for 30 minutes twice a day and he actually RUNS around the his backyard for 10-15 minutes daily. His front left paw drags and we wear a boot for our walks (with many duct tape patches :D ) but he is happy!! As Carolin...

Re: 98 pound Boxer cannot walk

Caroline,
I'm so sooooo sorry! When Dasani first went down I had no idea what we were facing and your journey you shared with Buster gave me the hope I needed to never give up. You are in my prayers.

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Hello! I wanted to give you guys an update on Dasani. It's been 19 weeks since the FCE/Spinal injury and he is doing great! We graduated from Physical Therapy in January. It was such a riot watching him run on the underwater treadmill. He loved it! He is getting around really well and the only thing...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Hello! Just wanted to update on Dasani. It's been 3 weeks and 3 days since the suspect FCE. We had physical therapy two times this week and he has been doing lots of leash/harness walking at home and he is wiped out. We have decided (along with the therapist) to let him have a rest next week from th...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Hello, Wanted to update you guys on how Dasani is doing. Today is 19 days from the suspect FCE. Dasani is doing so great! We finally mastered the urinating thing and he is now going on his own, and is walking without the rear harness, just a regular front harness since Monday afternoon :D This past ...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Puremutt and Charlie, September 2004 we had to put our 14yr old mini schnauzer, Dieter, out of his pain from liver cancer and it was truly the hardest thing I've ever experienced. I still tear up thinking about it. He was my baby, my heart dog. I'm sorry for both of your losses and am thinking about...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Gabriel and Caroline, Thanks for the encouragement! I feel like we have entered a whole other world...LOL We had a good afternoon/night. He has a great appetite and slept quite a bit. We took him out yesterday afternoon, night and wee hours of the morning to try and get him to potty but no go. I was...

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Please remember when he is home to take it easy! As much as you would like to see him walk again , he needs to heal. I used wee wee pads under the bed cover and one on top with an old towel. I know so much how you feel I can relate to those feelings, I had them too! I promise to remember he needs t...

Re: Bladder stones

Caroline,
I'm new here and reading everything I can about FCEs and was reading Buster's story yesterday and was so sorry to hear about the bladder stones. I'm glad to hear he is home and sounds to be doing well. We are just starting our journey and I hope our story will be as successful as Busters!

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

Hi Schnauzerlove, How much does your dog weigh? How big is your parents' dog and what kind is he? Has he tried to go after your dog before or other dogs? If he did go after your dog, can you guess what he might have done? For example, is he big enough to shake your dog? Or could he mount your dog? ...

http://www.dfwvetsurgeons.com/schnauzers.html Thought you might find this link interesting. Hope you are taking care of yourself during this trying time. Edited to add: Long-term survival rates for Schnauzers with FCE are significantly higher than large breed dogs with FCE. Treatment is supportive....

Re: Mini Schnauzer-sudden partial paralysis - how to prepare

:banner: Schnauzerlove, I've been following your story and hoping for a good outcome. I'm sure this has been very traumatic for your parents as well as your immediate family. Steroids can sometimes cause diarrhea. So sorry to hear that you had a set back, but we're hopeful that you get some good ne...
