Re: My Frenchie, Mr. Pibb, suddenly became paralyzed overnig

Angled wheels can be more stable but aren't as energy-efficient for the dog. Though I'm not sure it makes a lot of difference.

A lot of people just pad parts of the cart that might encounter furniture or doorways (doorways tend to be a bigger problem for my dog.)

Re: Deciding on Dog Wheel Chair

I have a paraplegic corgi who is very happy (well, not right now as I'm not outside throwing his ball for him.) He's also very healthy. And he is very active. I adopted one who was paralyzed at age 4, I got him at 8, and he lived to 13 1/2 with no problems until his final illness. This one has been ...

Re: Problems with wheelchair fit/what am I doing wrong?

Try removing the under-chest "support" as this is only pulling down on the harness. Then make sure the front harness is adjusted right and on right- there is a video which shows it on a light-colored dog where you can clearly see it. Then try again. The saddle looks fine.

Re: Advice needed

Did the vets say he has no deep pain? Seven days is very early. If he really has no deep pain it isn't a good sign, but it still doesn't mean he won't walk. It can take time, though. Whether or not he gets bladder control back is another question. If he still needs to be expressed maybe you can find...

Re: leg swelling while in cart

Can you take him out for a few minutes at least once an hour or so to get the circulation going again? Padding the saddle might help, too, but it depends on how the circulation is getting compromised. After my corgi Candy got a sore from the same thing, (to the bone) I started just making sure he di...

Re: 6.5 year old dog has a bump on gum - Very Worried

Years ago I had a Lab with a lump (lower jaw) and although it biopsied benign every time, X-rays convinced the oncologists that it wasn't benign (and it was eating up bone) so she had radiation to treat it. Lived 11 1/2 years after that. But I still don't know if it was or wasn't really cancerous. D...

Re: Paralyzed incontinent corgi mix

I started doing the Poise pads in the belly band a little differently- I cut one big pad in half lengthwise and then overlap both halves (they stick out the belly band a little). I use these belly bands: http://www.pekeatzurescue.com/bellybands911animalfabric.htm Another thing someone did that worke...

Re: New Rescue Advice for Diapers

I tried Happy Jack, did not work at all. Try Peke A'Tsu rescue belly bands. They can make to order if you need extra wide and work great with pads. If you go to my book website below there is a link for products that has a direct link but also easily found by googling 911 belly bands. I started cutt...

Re: Skin Breakdown

Make sure the saddle isn't too tight, first of all. Also make sure his time in the cart isn't too long without a break to allow circulation. As a big dog that's probably true but try to break it up at least once an hour even if you go on a long outing. He may be allergic to rubber so the lambswool w...

Re: Laser Therapy

I haven't done it but I think it would have little effect-it creates local heat and improves circulation and can help joints feel better but it can't heal nerves.

Re: Do you let them drag or hop?

Well, I do, but I keep watch for sores. Oliver uses the cart more than he drags and always on rough surfaces, but on grass or inside I often let him get around without it. Not if the grass is wet, though. Keep a close watch on feet and underside as sores can be hard to heal if they get started.

Re: 3 year old poodle with Ivdd

I've had two- first had surgery and got nothing back, second had no surgery and can stand up. Go figure. Candy lived 9 1/2 years after becoming totally paraplegic. No utis, one bad sore, otherwise healthy until the last week. Oliver is going on five years post injury and is very happy and healthy (c...

Re: Pug Returned With Back Leg Paralysis

A few years back I adopted a corgi whose owner could no longer care for him, who was pretty much in the same shape. He'd gone down in 2004 (age of 4) and was now 8, and he lived to be 13, happy and healthy as a cart dog. In his case it was the breeder who wanted to euthanize him (or at least conside...

Re: My dog got hit by a car. I need some advice! Please help

First and foremost- she can do fine if she doesn't walk again. But one week is really early after a trauma as swelling has to go down. However, what worries me here is that you are expressing, which suggests spinal cord damage, and that wasn't what the surgery was for. Spinal cord damage can heal wi...
