Re: FCE

Hi Emo's Mum, I haven't logged on to the site for a while but when I read your story of your pooch playing and then being paralysed, I could relate to it and wished I had of logged on a few weeks ago to share my story. My 10 year old Fox Terrier Jackson did exactly the same thing. He had absolutely ...

Re: Fibrocartiliginous Embolism

I thought it was strange too! In this case, Jackson didn't stop walking but couldn't and you could see how he could not bend his legs which may be different to this case - and, he would be ok in home surroundings but if you said the word 'park' or 'walk' then he would instantly lose all mobility! Be...

Re: Fibrocartiliginous Embolism

Welcome - I did have the same experience with Jackson my FCE pooch. He was doing remarkably well and improving, so I bought him some boots to help protect his feet when we went to the park. While I was waiting for them, he lapsed and then all of a sudden could not walk at all. His hind legs would go...

Re: Anything else we should be trying?

Sounds like you are having a tough time. Jackson got this thing where all his senses would get overloaded and his legs would go really stiff and to move them was quite painful and made him reluctant to do stuff. The physio showed me a heap of exercises to help unlock them which made a big difference...

Re: Anything else we should be trying?

It is really hard and all dogs are different but, to give you some hope, I wish I could show you Jackson 12 months ago versus today - because he had absolutely nothing - no weight bearing, no movement, no feeling in his paws, couldn't even wag his tail. Now he is running around (albeit wonky) chasin...

Re: Update on Wobblers

Hi Laura - lots of us here have been in that situation where you wonder if you are doing the right thing. There is nothing worse that that helpless look in their eyes, but you are fortunate that your pooch is happy and has a healthy appetite as that is a good start for a healthy recovery. Sounds lik...

Re: Jacko's 12 Month Update

Thanks for the kind 'anniversary' wishes, it is true that all the hard work has paid off, the advice I have received over the past 12 months has helped enormously! (both Jackson and Me!) :thankyou:

Re: My little Ziggy can't use his back legs

Hi Jill - I haven;t been at this post for some time and am sorry as I am sure I could have offered some words of hope! I have just posted an update on Jackson, my 8 year old mini foxie who had an FCE that left his back legs completely paralysed, 12 months ago - there was no reflex response at all in...

Re: Anything else we should be trying?

Hi Gnasher's Mum. I haven't had the same experience with a IVDD issue but my dog had an FCE and needed lots of rehab. Jackson loved a small obstacle course that I created for him in the living room. the physio told me to use pieces of dowel and build up to higher pieces of wood. The first time I tri...

Re: My dog may have FCE. Some ideas.

Hi there - welcome to the site. My dog Jackson also had an FCE and lost all feeling in his back paws. Jackson was a determined dog, but I think there were a few things that really helped his recovery - which may be helpful to you too. I did as much physio with him as I could manage, from very early ...

Jacko's 12 Month Update

Hi all, On boxing day, it will be 12 months since Jackson's sudden FCE and I am pleased to say the little mite just celebrated his 9th birthday at the park, running around with all the other dogs. He still is wonky, and drags one of his back paws but thanks to the protective boots, (and his determin...

Re: Jackson FCE Update and Questions?

Thanks Pam foe your advice- when he first did the injury, I used the bathtub every night and I am sure it played a big part in his rehab. The animal physiotherapist was stunned at how quickly he walked given the severity of his injuries. Thanks also for the tip about the joint stiffening shots. I wil...
