Re: Quality of Life

Sorry I am late to this, but what is being forgotten in this discussion is that Duchess is a PUG . Now as I should know with 9 of the little puggers, the most important things in life are: eating snuggling snoring eating sleeping eating loving and being loved eating Which of the above is limited by ...

Re: Reoccuring Bladder Infections PLEASE HELP!

I have several paraplegic pugs, and lots of troubles through the years with UTIs. best solution is not the special diets, but lots and lots of water. I give my pugs extra water 4 times a day with a pinch of tuna in it, and they wait for it like a treat. On the cranberry, the trouble is that you need...

Re: Introducing Myself and Duchess

So glad to hear Duchess is adapting and so are you. On the tummy troubles, the steroids can be hard on them, have you tried pepcid or tums, an antacid can really help out. They are both safe for dogs, and the tums are actually a good source of calcium too. I will join Carol in requesting pics. if yo...

Re: Possibly a good sign? (Sasha)

On the entropian, there is no cure other than surgery. Any moisturizing drops safe for cats will help, but the irritation will continue until the source is removed. Itis pretty simple surgery, I had 3 pugs done this past summer, and they have been perfect ever since. Good to hear that Sasha is up an...

Re: Dorsolateral Spinal Cord Compression

We are all keeping our fingers and paws crossed her for Busters full recovery. And thats a lot of paws...36! Sounds as if he is doing well so far, and that you are having a bit easier time with moving him about. Praying that he continues to heal, no more breaks and set backs.

Re: Cerebellum Ataxia

Welcome to the forum Tim, I am so sorry to hear of Chico's troubles. I have 5 spinal issue pugs, 3 in carts currently. I have found that dogs take very well to the carts when their mobility is severely limited without the cart. However while a dog can still get around in some fashion, pugs at least ...

Re: her back legs just give out on her

I think that Carol is probably right in her assessment on the previous reply. Since this has been a gradual onset, it would tend to indicate arthritis, possibly of the hip or spine area. If it were my dog, I would probably go ahead with x-rays to try to confirm this, but it would not be worth an MRI...

Re: her back legs just give out on her

So sorry Jim, I did not check my messages regularly as had a few problems here with the herd....I have 9 pugs, 5 of which are spinal injuries. I am posting your reply to my previous questions, and that way, more people can see and try to help with advice. BTW, to answer on this open forum, simply hi...

Re: Spinal Walking Vs. Normal?

I have 2 pugs that the neurologists have advised are spinal walking. their back legs move at a different rate than the fronts. They just kind of bring them ahead as needed. It is especailly noticeable when they hurry, like coming in for dinner. their front legs will be going at a good rate, the back...

Re: Best support for quick potty breaks?

for a real quick outing a towel roll is probably the easiest, but you will need a harness/lead on her to be able to stay with her and keep up. If you are looking at long term help, doggon carts (and probably others as well) sell the saddles from the carts separately, and they come with long straps t...

Re: New to this whole situation....

Welcome to the forum! I am not sure what surgery you had done for Madison. Many dogs have recovered relatively quickly, many take a lot of time, but cant really give you much info till I know a bit more about what happened? I have one dog that is walking and he did not have deep pain response accord...

Re: IVDD hemilaminectomy recovery questions

Welcome to the forum Jenna I'm afraid I dont have direct experience with IVDD surgery, but I do have 5 spinal injured pugs. If your vet thinks she will be walking in a matter of weeks, it is probably not worth investing in a cart. However if you are looking at months, it would be a life saver. So mu...

Such good news Paul!! That is a very speedy recovery period, and it will get better as you go. Such a great testimony for others going throught the same ordeal.
