Dropping Back in - update on my special kids...

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in about 1.5 years. I just wanted to post and update on my wonderful special kitties.... Let's see... a year an a half ago I had 1 hydrocephalus cat, 1 hyperthyroid cat, 1 cat with asthma/IBD and was fostering a kitten born without back feet..... Since then.... the hype...

Re: A sign of how burned out mom is

Right there with you.... after fostering a total of about 250+ cats and kittens I'm taking a break. I'm completely burnt out and need to focus on my own animals for a while (10 cats and 1 dog).

Re: Inbred Chihuahua

Have you asked your vet about hydrocephalus? (water on the brain). It's common in Chi's and if your dog is in-bred the likelihood is even higher. Dogs should have no problem with 3 legs so the weakness and especially the seizures are symptoms of hydrocephalus. Your pup's skull looks a little more do...

Front harness for cats? Fancy dislocated her shoulder BADLY

My poor Fancy girl..... she had a seizure the other day (often for her since she has hydrocephalus which is water on the brain). We are guessing this is the case since I came home on Wednesday from work and fuond her in the bathroom with a severly dislocated shoulder. Her leg was twisted 180 degrees...

Re: Prejudice against handicapped pets?

Well I can tell you that Fancy and Purrfect are NOT suffering. They are two of the happiest little cats you will ever meet. They deserve life just as much as a non-handicapped cat does.

Re: Annoying handicat site

Look at this quote too.... Missing a limb: Cats who are amputees will want to do the right thing by using the cat litter box, but due to limited mobility, may get frustrated and use the floor. They lose the ability to scratch at the cat litter to cover their production, as well as maintaining balanc...

Re: Prejudice against handicapped pets?

So far I've had the opposite reaction. I sometimes take Purrfect with me to adoptions so that he can help create awareness about special needs cats. usually he's sleeping on his fluffy turquoise pillow and he's wearing a sparkly scrunchy collar and his cage is decorated with tassles and beads. Peopl...

Re: More Kieffer Pics - Last Ones

Oh don't worry. He does get high quality food. All my cats do. I will probably keep him on food that is good for all life stages as opposed to particulary for kittens. He gets Artemis dry and Evolve canned. In the foster room I'm feeding Nutro Indoor Kitten dry and Evolve canned. That's what he was ...

Re: Does anyone do therapy work with their handicapped pet?

Oh how great!!!!! I mentioned it to my vet today when i went to pick Purrfect up from his neuter (today was his big day...) She thought he'd be great at it. While we were waiting in the waiting room to talk to the vet about my old cat's bloodwaork, Purrfect just sat calmly on my lap. Granted there w...

Does anyone do therapy work with their handicapped pet?

Just wondering if any of you do therapy work with your handicapped pet. The longer I have Purrfect, the more I'm thinking that he might be very well suited to it. He can't be evaluated until he's 1 year old but that gives me 7 months to train him properly. He's so gentle and sweet, major lap kitty. ...

Re: More Kieffer Pics - Last Ones

Carol - I'd sure love to read it! I'm stil trying to figure out how to be a good mom. I may get Purrfect a ramp to get on the couch (to spare the couch). He uses those claws like little clamp-ons. I don't think I want to trim his claws. If I can get him a ramp (and he uses it) I can let him keep his...
