Re: New here...need help with our dog... an update

Our precious Earl died this afternoon. He was just too old and sick to make it anymore and we felt that we had exhausted all options as far as treatments. He had been switched to comfort care only about 3 months ago but had a rapid decline in the past few weeks. We finally decided this afternoon th...

Re: New here...need help with our dog...

Is he overweight? If so, I'd particularly consider hydrotherapy (swimming). People have used bathtubs, hot tubs, natural bodies of water, swimming pools, and stock tanks to accomplish exercise and toning without weight-bearing. That would be fine if he were not already so high strung. The least lit...

Re: New here...need help with our dog...

We have had so many ideas sent to us and we will be going through them over the next few days. In the meantime, Earl is safe and in the carpeted hallway to the carpeted Master Bedroom (which he can also have access to). He wants to get out into the living room area, but we have a kiddie gate up so h...

Re: Getting Ready to say Goodbye

I didn't understand until he really got bad ( falling on his side couple days before his passing) that I had to make the ...

Re: New here...need help with our dog...

We have looked into runners. The only drawback is that he tends to wander off of anything put down for his protection. We have him in the carpeted hallway to our bedroom which he can manuever better than the floor. Also, our bedroom is carpeted and has a back door which leads to the yard so he does ...

Re: Getting Ready to say Goodbye

I know the feeling. We have contemplated that with Earl as well. He is 14, has arthritis and mild dysplacia as well as some other problems (enlarged heart, over weight, etc.). We are determined not to let him go until he tells us. He will tell us, when he is ready. I will be so sad. 14 is an excelle...

New here...need help with our dog...

We have a 14 year old Australian Shepherd named Earl. He has slowly become unable to get up easily (dysplacia (sp??) and arthritis). To make matters worse, our landlord just installed hardwoods in our living and dining room. Earl is 98 pounds so you can imagine what we are dealing with. We went out ...
