Doc is having Laser Disc Ablation - Advice?

Hi there, Just a quick reintro. My name is Jessica and I am owned by my 7 year old Pit Bull Doc. Doc has had 2 IVDD episodes and two surgeries - one in March of 2006 and one just this past March. I joined the board six months ago in the throes of all of it but haven't posted much since then. In any ...

Re: Paralyzed/Incontinent Dog over 40 lbs?

Carol, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for such a thoughtful (and helpful!) response. I am going to save it to a file, so that if I ever need it, will know right where to go. Fortunately, I can lift all of Doc's weight on my own so that's one obstacle solved. Do you have any idea where FurMominNewMexi...

Re: When to start exercising after surgery

My dog had surgery on 3/23 and just had his stitches out today. The neurosurgeon told us to start doing 10 minute leashed walks once a day.
Its probably best to have your dog reexamined by the vet and to get his/her okay before you decide to start any exercise, though.

Re: Paralyzed/Incontinent Dog over 40 lbs?

Oh hi, Mell! You, of course, stood out to me on Dodger's because you had mentioned your Pittie girl. You can breathe a sigh of relief. Pit Bulls are not prone to IVDD. It can happen (obviously) but it usually doesn't. Pit Bulls are naturally athletic and agile. I wouldn't worry about the jumping. Gl...

Re: Most absorbant pads?

When my Doc (55 lb male Pit Bull) was incontinent two years ago we had a very hard time finding a diaper that could contain a full void. We ended up using the Simple Solution diaper, lined with the absorbent, middle section of an adult Depends diaper. We just cut out the middle and placed it in the ...

Re: Stuff I learned along the way

A yoga mat! Why didn't I think of that? Dog knows it's been ages since I've used mine for yoga. It's hard to cover 1800 sq/feet of wood floors to guard against slippery paws but this is brilliant. Thank you for sharing your lessons learned. I wish you continued luck on your journey. Jessica & Doc

Helper Harness Recommendation for medium/large dogs

I just introduced myself in another post, but reading some of the threads inspired me to post a recommendation for a harness that was invaluable when Doc was recovering from his first bout with IVDD. We are about to put it on him a second time, but have to wait until he gets his stitches out (tomorr...

Dealing with Incontinence in Medium/Large Breed Dogs

My name is Jessica and I am owned by my sweet, 55 lb. Pit bull, Doc. Doc is 7 years old and is recovering from his second IVDD surgery in two years. According to the surgeon, if Doc is to slip another disc, surgery may not be an option for us, as there is only so much bone that can be cut. I'm tryin...
