Anyone successfully diaper a dragging doxie?
Anyone successfully diaper a dragging doxie? it sounds like a tongue twister! LOL I would like to occasionally diaper Schatzie. She goes through stages where she leaks a little more than normal. My problem is that she is a mini dachshund AND she drags her back legs. That combo has made it impossible...

Re: Need help deciding what saddle type to go with
Schatzie is a 7 yo mini dachshund who's been paralyzed for 2 1/2 year. She uses an Eddies' wheels cart. That harness is working great for her. I'm not familiar with the other cart you mentioned. Each dog is different. Schatzie mostly drags her feet (I just posted about taping up her feet with a scra...

Re: Using splints for protecting dragging toes
I struggled with this for a long time. My doxie knuckles almost all the time. Booties don't work on dogs who knuckle - even less so on dachshunds and other short legged breeds. I experimented with all kinds of tape and wraps for nearly a year. What works for us is sports tape and a small strip of le...

Re: Stuff I learned along the way
This is all so helpful. I have just a few things to add that I've learned by experience. I've always pushed the bladder to the back (tail) when expressing. My son is almost done with a degree in vet tech (going on to be a vet), he said the bladder empties into the uretha forward. Push toward the hea...

Re: FCE-1st Night Home Freaking Out
I usually lurk here. But, I wanted to respond to you. I have a six year old Doxie named Schatzie who has five herniated discs with paralysis to her back legs. It's been two years. I'm a control freak too and was very worried I was doing something wrong. With time you'll get more comfortable with the...

Re: Protect belly and tops of feet?
Update Schatzie has gained some strength in her hind legs so her belly doesn't drag anymore. After testing every kind of tape and bandage, we've settled on sports tape. We wrap her hind feet so that when they drag, the tops of her feet don't get ripped up. She now has a cart. When we go on a long wa...

Protect belly and tops of feet?
Hello, I have a five year old mini dox. Schatzie injured her back in October. she has five compressed vertabrae so was not a candidate for surgery. The surgeon more or less gave up on her and let us take her home. I found out later, he didn't think she would live. He is the local expert on back inju...

Re: Paralized dachshund - Please help
Anastasia, I love the photo of your sweet dog. She looks alot like my girl. You are right. Most doctors have no idea what to do with a paralyzed dog. Schatzie injured her back in October. she has five compressed vertabrae so was not a candidate for surgery. The surgeon more or less gave up on her an...
