Re: How does your dog show excitement if he can't wag his ta

Well, Bark For Life is an even that the AKC puts on. Try looking at the AKC website and see if there is a Bark For Life event near you (it's the same as a regular human cancer walk, but we are allowed to bring our furry pals to walk alongside us and help us raise money for cancer. :trophy: Bobbie, s...

Re: How does your dog show excitement if he can't wag his ta

Oh I just love that phrase: "front feet prance"!! That's it...it's like a prancing of the front feet! And yes, she's quite the happy dog - she just turned 12 but I try to keep her very active. She is a pet therapy dog and the patients LOVE her :hearts: - and it keeps her young when she's a...

How does your dog show excitement if he can't wag his tail?

My dog has been paralyzed in her hind legs for about 1.5 years (due to scar tissue developement 4 years after removal of a spinal tumor and RT). Anyway, I've been noticing that she found a new way to show her excitement since she can't wag her tail. If she is super excited, she moves the upper part ...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

Thanks all, Yes I will do some research (and ask the vet) about Yucca root liquid, Lisa. Thank you. Carol, great advice about not putting the wrap on too tight for people that might buy it - I was planning on doing a loose wrap (and it's not like she's the type to pull it off anyway, but we'll see!)...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

Wow Stacy - thank you! This sounds just like what is going on with Sawyer. She has always licked her paws during "allergy season", and now it's even worse since the paralysis (she had a benign tumor on her spinal cord that was removed, followed by radiation treament, and then she developed...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

Thank you everyone for your replies. Carol, the first link makes sense in Sawyer's case (not the others tho'...she definitely doesn't have pain in her hindend...and if I squeeze and rub her paw she doesn't react in anyway whatsoever). Thank you for taking the time for posting those links and for pos...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

Thanks Critters. I will definitely mention the Neurontin to the vet. I didn't mean that it can't be a nerve problem...I was just saying that it can't be that she is regaining sensation due to recovery. I agree that she might have sensation there, even though there is no motor activity. I just wonder...

Re: I NEED A DOG WHEELCHAIR!

Hi there, I got my cart from Eddie's Wheels. They have a section on their website called "used carts", and people advertise their carts for all different prices. You may want to take a look there. These are custom made carts though, so make sure you find a cart that has the measurements yo...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

I just read that thread by April. How horrible and sad. Now I realize that it was just a misunderstanding (I knew I would have a hard time explaining the issue!). Anyway, there is no biting involved...just licking. And the hard calloused looking part of her pads are disappearing...there is no irrati...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

Thanks for your quick reply Carol. Unfortunately it's not from her regaining sensation...she has permanent paralysis. I was really hoping this was something to do with the paralysis that might be a well known thing by many parapup owners, but I guess I'll have to ask the vet again. Sometimes I feel ...

Re: Dog eating paw pads

Let me just rephrase that the texture, when dry, is like porcupine quills. When wet, the texture is like noodles.

Dog eating paw pads

I will try to explain this oddity as best as I can. My dog (with rear leg paralysis) has literally licked or eaten most of the pads on her rear left paw. She started to develop this spaghetti-like (hair-like) texture on her pads (almost like it started to spread out from non-use). When this first st...

Anyone here use Nitrofurantoin?

Hello, My vet has had my paralyzed dog on Nitrofurantoin for quite awhile now due to her constant UTI's. It costs $77 per bottle, but more importantly I am worried that it can cause her harm. I am deathly afraid of her getting kidney failure, and therefore I was happy with the constant use of this m...

Re: Expressing/stimulating bowel movements

IT WORKED :applaud:

I gently squeezed the skin surrounding her anus and the BM started to come out immediately. I let one piece come out (sorry to sound gross) and then I stopped squeezing, and she finished the BM on her own.

So everyone who replied, thank you for all your input!!!

Re: Expressing/stimulating bowel movements

Jennifer, Thank you for that wonderful post. It made me extremely hopeful. Also, you are right...ANY dog can have an accident! I know Sawyer will bring joy to people, and I've already noticed how inspired people get when they see her during a walk around the neighborhod. We start at a nursing home a...
