Re: Miracles happen!
What a cute dog! Nice to read your story, i have to be hopeful then. Yes, that is one reason I posted it, to let everyone know (especially those of you who are newest to this board) DON'T GIVE UP HOPE While I know we have been extremely lucky and this amount of recovery is unlikely in many cases, i...

Miracles happen!
Just to refresh everyone's memory, Tuffy (2 year old dog)became totally paralized over about a week's time, a little more each day. He finally had zero deep pain response, and the ONLY movement he had was from his neck up. That was about 5 1/2 half weeks ago. "Crate rest" was not necessary...

Re: Questions about new quad
No, that's the puppy, Mousse, he is a chocolate lab. He is Tuffy's toy, haha. When we got him, Tuffy was a year old, and "took him over" for his own. Mousse is missing right now. While I was so busy with Tuffy, Mousse went jaunting with one of our older dogs and didn't come back yet...but ...

Re: Questions about new quad
Tuffy is sending big slurpy kisses to Luka and all the rest of the gimpy gang! Tuffy's mom is admitting that now she is letting him walk about 30-40 feet while searching for "just the right spot" to do his business, and helping him up and down about 5 steps in and out of the house. I belie...

Re: Sylke Update - Approx. 8 weeks Post Injury
Oh so great to see your baby's progress! Sylke looks like she toes in in one of your photoes, with her elbows out to each side...my Tuffy is doing that too right now. Do you suppose it's because they are using different muscle groups to use the front legs than they did before?

Re: Questions about new quad
Thanks for the well wishes guys! Update: Tuffy scratched an ear with a back leg this morning! I believe this shows "spacial awareness" of where that leg is and control of what it is doing! I'm also ashamed to admit that yesterday I had him standing up ( he had only taken weight on his back...

Re: Questions about new quad
Time for a Tuffy update! He has been sleeping between us since his injury, so I can tend him (turn him over 2-3 times per night). He surprised us Friday morning when we woke up to find him facing the foot of the bed, he has always been facing the head of the bed. Asked hubby Rog if he turned him...n...

Re: Questions about new quad
Hi Cindi, yes, I am saying he got worse in the back first. He was knuckling over in the back WHILE his front feet and legs were still working. The front was also affected, at the same time, but not as much as the back. Then he started knuckling over on the front too, and at that point he had to be c...

Re: Questions about new quad
It is rare for a dog with IVDD to Go down front first and then rear. You see...when a disc blows, everything from that disc back is effected neurologically. Cindi Ok Cindi, I went back to reread my posts since I can't figure out where you got that from, I am still missing it. He didn't go down fron...

Re: Questions about new quad
I just want to add, you guys and this forum probably saved his life. Without it, with his original total paralysis and the vet saying virtually no hope, I would probably have had him put down. This resource showed me the vets often don't know what is possible, and reading about other successes gave ...

Re: Questions about new quad
Julie his appetite has always been good, but I kept him on a mostly liquid diet the first 10 days, both to make sure he was very well hydrated, and to make him lose some weight so I could handle him easier. He probably was a few pounds overweight, but he's so muscular it was hard to tell, he's built...

Re: Questions about new quad
Today Tuffy stood for about 30 seconds! I put him on the floor, he took his weight on the front right away, I held his rear end and after about 20 seconds I could feel his rear legs start to take his weight so I moved my hands up on each side of his chest "just in case" and he stayed there...
