Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

Hi there, you are doing all the right things, don't worry. Spencer was affected on his right side and his back leg shoots out uncontrollably too, especially on slippery surfaces. His front right leg is very very weak so he doesn't use it much and his muscle has wasted. His FCE was high up in his nec...

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

You are very welcome Sandy. If you have any concerns or worries don't hesitate to post them here.

What sort of dog is your little girl by the way? How old is she ? I would interested to learn how the FCE came about and the explanation given to you by your vet.

Best wishes

Caroline

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

Hi there, I think you have to play it by ear. It really does depend on your dog and only you know your dog best. I know that I was worried that I was pushing Spencer too far when he was first paralysed, but the physiotherapist said that it was vital that we should do all we could for him - in other ...

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

Hi Anniesgirl Please don't despair - I know how heartbreaking it is to see them go through this but have faith and believe in your dog. It is very, very early days and my Spencer didn't walk for several weeks - I pushed him round in a buggy so he could get out and see and smell the countryside. Can ...

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

Hi there! Just an update on Spencer's progress to give hope to all FCE dogs. It is now 4 months since Spencer was struck by FCE and paralyzed but he has made steady progress. Today he runs around on all four legs, although his front leg is very weak and he does hold it up at times. The other day he e...

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

3 week update Hi everyone - Spencer is doing great! He is now able to get up and stand (and sit) by himself and is walking and trotting around the garden by himself, albeit still on 3 legs. He does have a bit of trouble on hard floors as his right back leg slips away from him - I have ordered some P...

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

Hi there, I just want to thank everyone here who gave me such support and encouragement and to let you know how Spencer is doing 2 weeks from the seizure. (FCE) He is improving daily and is a great source of fun and enjoyment. We have been doing physiotherapy and acupuncture twice a week and he is n...

Re: Miniature Schnauzer FCE all 4 legs - please help

Hi Sam Thanks for taking the time and trouble to write of your experience - it made me cry but gives me hope for Spencer. (It was also my birthday the day after Spencer's seizure.) 6 days after the seizure, Spencer is moving his limbs but is unable to move himself or bear any weight on them. He hold...

Hi everyone - I am new to this forum and brokenhearted as my beloved 3 year miniature schnauzer Spencer, has become paralysed in all 4 legs due to FCE. He had a seizure on Saturday, took him straight to the vet who sedated him and gave him a steroid injection and kept him overnight. Sunday he was tr...
