Re: seeking help/advice for blind JRT mix
I'm with Christine. If he doesn't medically need the surgery (is he in pain?) I would leave it be. We recently polled our membership on micropthalmia, asking how many have needed treatment as a fellow rescuer is having her first exp. w/it. Out of maybe 40 or more eyeballs, none of us have needed to ...

Re: seeking help/advice for blind JRT mix
Did I mention blinddogs should wear a chest harness for walkies? The Gentle Leader, to be specific. The D ring is at chest level and keeps pup on perfect lead and in a good comfort zone. With any degenerative eye disease, you want to keep pressure off the neck and up for walks. Don't know how active...

Re: seeking help/advice for blind JRT mix
There are a world of blinddog rescuers out there! I suggest BDRA for starters and also JRT rescue. I presently have 2 blinds (one is deaf as well) and they get along BRILLIANTLY! Please read the stickie in this forum and I also recommend KarenG's wonderful site, http://www.blinddogs.net. For a chat ...

Julie, IMOM has a fantastic group of fundraisers. I also recommend blogging you dogs. A local rescue raises all their $$ by blogging. 50 dogs. Yes,it can be done! Best of luck and good wishes to you.

Yikes I Have no idea, but I would recommend massage of theleg to keep blood flow and nerve endings viable,if at all? Ask doc about this as if there is an embolism, you don't want to be putting any pressure on it. Folks will weigh in shortly, but in the meantime, WELCOME!

I can't begin to give you any advice as comprehensive nor as useful as Madame CarolC (I want to be her if I ever grow up), but as CarolC says, 14 is a grand age for this boy. Your husband should be CELEBRATING this accomplishment and giving RN the BEST last time of his life! This is the time that ma...

Re: Newly blind cat--need advice
caretaker, you have a lot of contact with blind families. I encourage you to visit the blind stickie in this forum, as there is a lot of advice you will be able to share. Blind dogs are the same as blind cats, except cats are far more agile and you can add in your cautions, closed doors as opposed t...

I am so thankful to be able to learn from your exp. It really sounds like a bad ordeal. There are a lot of various seizure & aggression links in poor Possum's thread at: http://handicappedpet.net/helppets/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10816 And while she lost her battle (soooo many issues going on), ...

Re: Need advice for older blind/deaf cocker spaniel
I entered the 'blind only' world in 2003, and what struck me was the despair of the humans. I had a little terribly confident blind pup, (all pups are born deaf and blind) who strutted through life with a toy in her mouth and BONK she would hit the furniture, the wall, the door, she shookit off and ...

Re: Adopting a blind kitten
What a BEAUTIFUL BABY! Cats do a lot better than dogs at adapting. They have more grey cells, they tell me :) The safe room allows the comfort zone to build. A blind cat in the wild is a dead cat in the wild. The best defense is a good offense & ad nauseum. The comfort zone is the most important...

I'll say it again, it's either always alright or never alright. Tonight I had to do something that distressed me and my PERFECT pup greatly. She peed on the floor right in front of me. When I hollered and chasedher she ran from me. THEN AS I YELLED AT HER BAD DOG!! She had the '****** ' to curl her ...
