Re: Prednisone Side Effects

I didn't just discontinue the med. I just reduced the dose 1 day sooner than the vet prescribed. Prescribed dosage 2/day for 5 days THEN 1/day until gone I did / am doing 2/day for 4 days THEN 1/day until gone Buddy is 45lbs. I don't have the meds with me so I'm not sure of the exact pill weight. I ...

Prednisone Side Effects

Hello All! Buddy was prescribed Prednisone (spelling?) and started taking it Sunday. He was prescribed 2 pills / day for 5 days so yesterday was supposed to be the last 2/day dose, but the side effects were so bad yesterday I only gave him one dose. I will say that the side effects of Prednisone esc...

Re: Many Thanks!!

We're heading to the chiropractor here in a few mins. It's our first trip! I scanned some of his xrays, most of them didn't turn out well, but I posted the good ones to his blog (link in my signature). You can click on the pics to get a full size view of the xrays.

Re: Many Thanks!!

Well, during our lunch walk he did his normal thing and marked several spots. He is definitely getting more adventurous and comfortable with the cart and quicker to take it offroad into the grass. After we got done with the walk I expressed his bladder and probably just an ounce maybe two came out, ...

Re: Many Thanks!!

Thanks Carol, I'll check out the links. I'll try to answer a few of the questions. I made his harness system out of an old wetsuit I was not using anymore. The front harness velcros on. The rear harness goes on like underwear, then there's a D-ring clip to secure it. Once I have both harnesses on hi...

Re: Many Thanks!!

Thanks for the kind comments!! Buddy's bladder control seems to be very good. Before all of this Buddy was a 'marker'. He would hit every tree, bush, mailbox in sight, especially if another male dog was present. Now that Buddy has figured out the chair he just pulls up next to the tree, mailbox, tir...

Re: Buddy's Getting Used to his New Wheels!!

Thanks Carol! Yes, I do plan on leaving the video and website up indefinitely. We are also going to continue updating it until the story ends.... :~( When I was faced with this situation last week the individual stories and websites I came across were both an inspiration and an extremely valuable le...

I'm trying not to get overly excited, but Buddy's starting to take to the doggy wheelchair very well.

I couldn't figure out how to post a video here so here is a link to the video of our lunchtime walk today!!

Re: Many Thanks!!

The walker and bike tire concept was basically an idea born from necessity. I needed a doggy wheelchair asap and it was Friday at lunch. The quickest way for me to get one was to build it myself. When you get down to it a doggy wheelchair is basically three components. 1. The frame 2. The wheels/tir...

Many Thanks!!

I just wanted to say thank you to all the members here at HandicappedPets.com. Earlier last week my 10yr old Akita/Chow mix became paralyzed basically from the waist down (not sure that dogs have waists...?). Anyways, the paralysis began sometime Monday morning, by Wed he was VERY wobbly in the back...
