A urine scald solution that worked for my cat
Just wanted to share something I've learned works for me. My male cat had a tail break a year ago and had the usual incontinence issues. He had really bad urine scald and no matter what I tried (washing with salt water, ointments, etc.) I found that shaving his fur off on his pee/poo area and down t...

Re: Cat: broken pelvis+tail, eating+pee+poo problems, I'm sc
Hi, You mentioned that he was having a dry, hard stools... My male cat is in a very similar situation (but we are at the 1 year mark now). I found lactulose to be useful in an emergency in the beginning but overtime it would just cause messes when it would get too runny. So, I took him off the lactu...

Re: Cat with sacral fracture/broken tail
Sounds pretty good for Bobo. Is he leaking while in the house? for my guy, its been 3 and 1/2 months since the car accident. He is peeing in the litter box (so no expressing, yay!). But he does leek pee when he licks himself down there. As a solution, I've confined him to one of the rooms in the hou...

Re: Cat with sacral fracture/broken tail
I went through 5 vets who wanted to put my cat down because he couldn't pee or poo after getting hit by a car - I kept changing vets until I got someone who was optimistic. Now, two and a half months later, he is weeing in his litter box and has made a lot of progress! So, good for you for not liste...

Re: Incontinence while asleep
My cat has the same situation - happened about 2.5 months ago. We are also in New Zealand. I tried the bethenacol in the beginning and it costs $14 for 4 pills at my vet. My cat is going in his box but is still leaking at night and when he licks himself to clean down there. I tried expressing him ri...

Re: Is this a positive sign?
It was on May 15th. His tail was amputated within the first week. It took me a long time to figure out how to express. He is a boy cat and apparently boys are harder because they have a long urethra. Finally I saw a different vet and they explained that with boys, you have to find the bladder and th...

Re: Is this a positive sign?
That sounds like a positive update :) My cat with the similar injury is doing the same thing when he cleans himself down there. The only solution for that I've found is to keep him most the time in the half of the house that has hard surface floors - so its easy to clean. He also goes outside for a ...

Re: Is this a positive sign?
Sounds like my cat has a similar injury. He was squatting in his box like you described and nothing was happening for a long time. After a month and a half of a dry litter box he started to pee very small amounts in the box and then over a 2 week period the amount of pee got bigger and bigger until ...

Re: Phenoxybenzamine question
Thanks Carol and Critters. I just found out from a vet that it can take 1-2 weeks, but as long as up to a month for the phenoxybenzamine to wear off. So we are in the beginning of his 3rd week and still some leaking while sleeping. About the Bethanacol - He was on it in the first 1 or 2 weeks after ...

Phenoxybenzamine question
Hi - does anyone know how long it takes for phenoxybenzamine to leave a cat's system? My cat was using it because of urine retention from a tail injury after getting hit by a car. He was manually expressed until he finally started to pee in the litter box on his own. Now that he can go in his box (a...
