Re: Imperforate anus

She is now called Brisa. Amazingly, the tests she has had done at the hospital (contrast x-rays, scans and endoscopy, etc.) appear to show that there is no fistula. In other words, it seems she has never pooped at all. Yet she is still lively and playful. It appears that the intestine just ends in a...

Re: Cluster seizures / status epilepticus

Hi Nez, Thanks for asking. She is hanging in there, her balance seems to be improving, although so slowly that I think it could take months. At least now if she falls she tends not to hit her head like she was doing before. She still tends to go in circles... The screaming has lessened too, in volum...

Re: Need advice from FeLV/FIV experts

Thanks! I got the message. Not sure if she will stand up to being knocked out in order to clean her. Haven't seen her cleaning herself yet, still too weak I expect. She is really wild, I have to use gloves to change her food, water, bedding etc., just in case. I expect we will have to operate on pup...

Re: Imperforate anus

1st pic, I spoke to the nearest veterinary hospital that I usually go to with complicated cases. They only ever operated for this in a litter of kittens but are willing to take a look, so we should hopefully be going tomorrow... she is sweet and playful but spends a lot of time crouching to try and ...

Re: Need advice from FeLV/FIV experts

Thanks so much MC. My gut instinct is that she is going to improve with just decent and accessible food and no motor oil but I will try and get hold of any supplements that might help her. My target is to get her testing negative in 6 months :-) But if she doesn't but is looking like she feels bette...

Re: Imperforate anus

Just got the message to go and pick her up this evening! Spoke with one of the surgeons at the vet hospital here, they have never had a case in dogs but have operated on kittens and will be happy to take a look at her... At least she is going to get a chance, thanks Carol for the info, it was a grea...

Need advice from FeLV/FIV experts

Just when I really didn't need any more rescues, I plucked a cat from the middle of the main road Sunday, she was staggering around along the dotted line in the middle of the traffic, covered in engine grease, I think she may have dropped from an engine right there because she suddenly appeared in f...

Re: Imperforate anus

Thanks Carol, I had found the abstract to that first article and was translating it for my vet, but not the whole thing, will have a look later and at the other links too. What I had already seen from the abstract was that it seemed that the poodle cases in it were similar to her case. It was a holi...

Re: Cluster seizures / status epilepticus

Thanks Nez, I haven't seen any major improvements but I think there is some minor improvement. She is quieter for longer, and seems to be a bit more stable. She still has the screaming fits but they are not as violent or as long-lasting, she tends to stop squealing and start moaning. If I lift her u...

Imperforate anus

Am trying to "get custody" of a 1-month old poodle with imperforate anus. She basically has no tail at all (not even any sign of one) and no anus. Her poop is evacuated via the vulva. She is still with her mother at the moment. The breeder already gave the order to have her PTS, I am tryin...

Re: Cluster seizures / status epilepticus

Thanks Carol, I got your PM too. I think we're just going to have to wait it out. It's difficult because of the screaming, you always get that nagging doubt that maybe you're reading it wrongly and life is too unbearable for her. But I think she is slightly calmer, we just had a screaming session no...

Re: Cluster seizures / status epilepticus

Nez, please don't blame yourself. When Bombón was still sedated and paddling (2 days after the status episode began), it got to the point where I decided that if she hadn't stopped paddling by that afternoon, I would ask the vets to put her to sleep. I got to the clinic in the afternoon as prepared ...

Re: Cluster seizures / status epilepticus

You are all very kind. Nez, thank you for your support and offer of help. I'm sorry about Poco and the fact you had to go through all this. It really is the most stressful situation so I really feel for you. Twice while Bombon was still in Status E. I was ready to put her to sleep, both times she ma...

Re: Cluster seizures / status epilepticus

Thanks Karen for reading what turned out to be a very long post, sorry! Yes, Bombón always had hearing problems, from when I first took her in. It was very strange, she can't pick up a human voice (at least not mine) but if I whistle, or make loud hissing/kissing noises etc. she can hear those. Some...
