Re: Appertex (Clazuril) for coccidea

About Appertex (Clazuril), I'm pretty sure the tablets are 2.5 mg and the dose is 5mg per kilogram. I have been looking on the Internet again to see if I can find out about its use in cats and can find nothing! I did find a post that said that European vets are using it for other animals apart from ...

Re: vision

Thanks for the info. You're right, he does have some catching up to do, maybe I'm expecting too much too soon! It's just that he has improved so much in two days... Will try the vision testing thing in a couple of days. I have some little furry mice that no kitten has ever been able to resist, but h...

A bit more about the kitten

He slept peacefully, hardly surprising after the Valium, when he woke up he was shaking quite strongly so I took him straight to the vet's then fed him there. It appears the kitten can see but when he walks he has a tendency to circle, and he seems to guide himself more by touch than by sight, he do...

Latest update on kitten: promising

Kitty was at the vets all day. Without medication, has not had any further seizures yet... X-ray of his head was one of the clearest x-rays I've ever seen, quite stunning. But no sign of anything wrong, no fractures, everything in the right place, no signs of hydrocephalus... Kitty this evening is m...

Re: I need info & help!

We had a kitten last year whose eye was very bad and her cornea appeared to be peforated. We had to treat her for a month with Aureomycin in preparation for the operation, to see whether they could repair it or would have to remove the eye. After the month on Aureomycin her eye had healed completely...

Need info on fits/convulsions in kittens

They brought me a 6 week old kitten today, found in the middle of a main road. He was very thin and looks like he has rickets, the girl said that when she found him she took him home and gave him some boiled ham and he ate it and then had a "fit". Kitten was calm but has a very strange meo...

Re: calici viruses..and ulcers on tongues etc.

That's useful, we haven't had any calici v. this year but we had a few last year, with very nasty ulcers. We used to use the Spanish version of Albon for coccidiosis, but now we are using Appertex (Clazuril)which is actually for birds, mainly pigeons. One of my cats, Houdini (the Great Escape Artist...

Re: that would make life so much simpler

OK, I'll try and find out the doses cos I can't remember. The medicine itself only tells you the doses for birds, but the good thing is that cos pigeons don't weigh very much, you don't find yourself having to break a tablet into 20 pieces for a kitten! Will find out tomorrow at the vets (they check...

Re: Which Cart is Best?

Hi Brenda, I found a link for somebody in the US (Florida) who ordered their cart from Dog Mobile in the UK. They seem pretty pleased with it. Maybe you could contact them and ask them questions: http://dreamemporium.com/Nyssas_Wheels.html Take note of the instructions at the bottom as to how to con...

Re: Anybody heard of "spinal walking" phenomenon?

Hi Pavla Glad to hear there is some improvement in Sara's condition! Can't find anything on "spinal walking" but found quite a good article on spinal infarct that I think you may find interesting. It says that when there is deep pain response, recovery can start in approx. 2-3 weeks and ta...

Re: Sore leg

Hi Diane, I came across this link quite recently and apart from their "Dogg leggs" for large dogs which is their main product they have several other things too, mainly for sore/arthritic elbows and hocks and they say that if you can't find what you need they will make it for you to fit yo...

Re: Jack - Italian websites for handicapped pets

Giovanna: Don't lose hope, three weeks is not much time, as the others have already said, healing can take much longer. Here are some Italian websites that deal with animals with mobility problems. I hope that if you contact them you will be able to get the support and advice that you need from peop...

Re: Zithromax

Glad you started a new thread, the other one was going off the board! We tend to try Zithromax when they have URIs and other antibiotics are not working or when the kitten arrives in such bad shape -on its last legs- that we will try anything. In Spain we can get it in a children's medicine/syrup, i...

Thanks Bendy/Critters

I'm real sorry too, they were being taken off to the vet's to be put to sleep and I took them in but they were several hours old and already cold. First 5 days they improved then they just went downhill and died at 7, 8 and 10 days, nothing we did with the vets seemed to help. But at least they woul...

Re: very well!

Sorry, Bendy, for not replying sooner, my baby kitties got ill and all three died (panleukopenia, I think). We had them on drip and everything but the virus was too strong and they had never had their mother's milk as they came to me with the placentas still attached...:-(( I'm glad Valentine's visi...
