Re: Anyone ever hear of HOD?

We have seen a couple of cases of HOD here in Spain. At the time I found a lot of useful information on the Great Dane Lady's website, she has seen lots of cases of HOD (she's not a vet but a nutritionist) and it might be worth you contacting her to see if she has seen any similar cases to Pearl... ...

Re: Imperforate anus

Brisa is fine! She is a year and a half old now... The journey has not been without its tough parts, especially for the lady who adopted her. Since her original surgery Brisa has had at least another 2 operations, one was because the hole they made initially began to close up, and another was to spa...

Re: What to do with Oscar... (long!)

Sorry I haven't been around for such a long time. We had a terrible snowstorm in March of this year that left us days without electricity etc. and ever since then I just never seem to have managed to catch up with everything. We finally got Oscar into a wheelchair and he was adopted in Holland in Ja...

Re: Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Thank you for your message Lilybug. What a beautiful cat... something in her expression reminds me of Milu. Unfortunately Milu died last Sunday. We had to operate twice in a couple of weeks to try and sort out his hips, he was unable to defecate because his pelvis was so collapsed that his femoral h...

Re: Pomeranian with Epilepsy has severe mobility issues - HELP!

Hmm, one of the most common signs of hypothyroidism (apart from epilepsy) is patchy hair loss. Bombón had it mainly on her stomach but at times on her back and tail base. Also, the skin pigmentation on her belly got much darker, with kind of dark freckles around the edges. There are many, many possi...

Re: Pomeranian with Epilepsy has severe mobility issues - HELP!

I'm sorry for the problems you're having. I'll come back later with more, but it would be important to know whether they did any thyroid testing on her. Hypothyroidism is a major cause of canine epilepsy and can also cause various neuropathies, in fact it can cause many different symptoms. The follo...

Re: Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

His parathyroid hormone (intact parathormone) test is back. The normal range is 0-40 and his value is <3. Every traumatologist we consulted here has insisted it is nutritional secondary hyperthyroidism. I think that test shows it isn't. If it had been 33 I might have thought it was NSH and he was re...

Re: Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Thanks Mari; what you wrote means a lot to me because I know you have tons of experience and can understand kitty expressions. So many people here think he should just be put to sleep because, they feel, he must be in too much pain. When I look at his x-rays I flinch, but watching him day in day out...

Re: Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Thanks Bendy! First intact parathormone test came back as "unprocessable" after a 2-week wait, so last week we sent blood for another. The lab is paying for it this time, so let's hope they get a result. If the parathormone result looks like it isn't nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidi...

Re: Cati: Paralysed female doxie in Spain

Well, it took us two years but Cati has finally found her forever home! I'm sorry Doxiemomma, I never saw your message, for some reason I didn't get an email advising me of your post and only found it now when I dug out this old thread; thank you anyway for your kind offer. Am attaching photos of Ca...

Re: Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Lab tests are just back and on paper he looks healthier than me :D I asked for parathormone level and it wasn't included in the results, not sure if it will come later or they forgot it, it was to try and rule out secondary nutritional hyperparathyroidism... am waiting for their response on that. If...

Re: Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Do you know if it's true that they feel less pain when their bones fracture than people with "normal" bones do? At the moment he's playing with a furry mouse... (using his mouth). He complains bitterly if he wants something and doesn't get it. If he wants you to stroke him he just complain...

Cat with possible Osteogenesis Imperfecta

We went to collect Milu, a male European shorthair tabby, last Thursday from the other side of Spain. He is approx. 10 months old and came with a tentative diagnosis of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone syndrome). He was a stray taken in at the age of 2 months approx. We did X-rays and he has mu...

Re: What to do with Oscar... (long!)

Sorry, just had an image of Oscar all kitted out in skateboarding gear, hahaha

Will look into it and see what there is here, there must be something that would work, I can see him skating round to Beach Boys songs

Will let you know if I come up with anything!

Thank you
