Re: Deramaxx alternative?

OH great! I did find a place where the shipping is reasonable, so I ordered from them. I'll save the site you linked and try that next time. Perhaps the charge will be even less.

I want to wait and see how Abby does on them before ordering a larger amount.

Thanks all!:)

Re: Deramaxx alternative?

I just wrote to F&S to ask about ordering since I'm in Canada. I think I'll get someone I know in the US to order it then send it to me since I have a feeling that the shipping charges will be horrendous.

Thanks again.:)

Re: Deramaxx alternative?

Thanks Sandy!

I did look at F&S again and found what they call "Dog aspirin"....is this what you are referring to?

Re: Deramaxx alternative?

Thanks bobbie.

This is really funny, but not amusing. The Canadian Pharmacy says;

"At this point in time we do not ship any of our products to Canada."

Re: Deramaxx alternative?

@Bobbie - yes, I've given Abby aspirin and it seems to have no adverse effects on her..no tummy problems anyway. The last time I saw my vet, she didn't approve of aspirin, so I just give it once in awhile now. @CarolC - thanks so much for doing all that research and figuring for me. I'm very mathema...

Deramaxx alternative?

My old dog, who I adopted at the age of 9, had arthritis when I got her. Glucosamine/Chondroitin helped her immensely for awhile. Now she is deteriorating to the point where she needs Deramaxx nearly every day. I don't want her in pain, but the cost of the meds ($80/month) is a bit of a stretch. Is ...

Re: Hospice Care

It sounds like this poor dog is having a miserable existance, especially since he's elderly and living in isolation outdoors. Taking an old dog who is a fear-biter to any sort of shelter or facility is not humane, IMO. Because of his biting, rehoming would not be an option I would consider. I'm very...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

Look at that face. So full of character! Just think what would have happened to him had he not come to you. Very large mixed breed adult dogs are extremely difficult to adopt out, so it's wondrous that you found each other! As CarolC says, Jake had a long life, much love and a home of his own. So ma...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

I"m so sorry for the loss of Jake, but please don't feel you betrayed him in any way. He was loved, cherished and spoiled his whole life (I'm sure!) and had a peaceful and gentle passing with those loved near. It's easy to say "Don't feel guilty" because I always do for one reason or ...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

Jakity, of course we don't want to let a beloved friend go. Who would? I too got sick and had a panic attack when I had to let my last dog go, and she was only 6. I know I'll be devastated when I have to do it for my present dog and that won't be very far in the future. We all wish our pets could ju...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

I"m sorry you're going through this with your girl. I've had many, many pets and the way I judged when it was time was when my pet no longer seemed to enjoy the things they always loved - going out, walks, treats, etc. Without any joy, there's not much point, IMO. We're never sure we waited too...

Re: Suggestions for ramps/steps?

Well, I'm just hoping that when it comes to using it on my car, Abby will go for it. I'm counting on the fact that she so loves to get her butt in the car and go places that her desire will overcome any fears she may have. I can understand your dogs being hesitant if there's any wobbling or bending ...

Re: Suggestions for ramps/steps?

Finally ordered the PetStep ramp and it came today. I followed the tips, lying it flat on the floor at first and using a few treats, Abby ws walking on it within a minute. I elevated one end a bit, and she was fine with that too. Finally I used it to help her on the sofa, and she went right up! Comi...

Thank you so much Carol! I think that strap will do nicely and is exactly the kind of thing I was searching for. :D

Love the car conversion too.

Suggestions for ramps/steps?

I need a way to help my Abby get into my car. She's 10 years old and about 55lbs. I found a site that sells many different steps and ramps, but all of the pictures show the ramps being used on vans or SUVs. My car is a smaller sedan (Yaris) and the back door doesn't open really wide, therefore the r...
