Re: Anna, could you please update us?

Anna, I feel for you. Just talk it over again with your vet and see if things change for the better. If worst comes to worst and you truly can't take any more - or do any more - you realize that handicapped dogs can be adopted by people who might be in a better stage of life and state of bodily stre...

The very best to you both, Melissa! I sure hope everything comes out ok with him. Arthritis is bad enough in people - and we can communicate degree of pain - can't imagine how he must fee. Keep us posted. Take care.

Re: Help Needed: Love bird leg deformity

Carol, I would think that there would be something available out there, but so far I'm not able to track anything down. I did read about the ramps and such just to make it easier to travel around in the cage - and one owner built several little ramps to sort of force the bird into doing some exercis...

Gabriel won't wear ANYthing - he freaks. Got a phobia that he can't get rid of. But the diapers DO work for others - that's for sure. He DOES do things by touch command though - so he's not completely un-teachable. Just doesn't like confinement. Being claustrophobic myself, I guess I understand. Tha...

Re: Help Needed: Help Please

Stephanie is absolutely right - call your vet now and maybe someone can come to your house to check him out so you don't have to transport him. Disks are painful when they apply pressure on nerves. The nerves from his neck disks affect the front legs. He may have 'blown' the disk completely, which i...

Well, Carol T. got me thinking...a thing I usually keep in reserve. I found a story about a bird with splay leg that you might find interesting. On http://www.parrotchronicles.com/marchapril2004/disabled2.htm there is a story about a parrot named LuLu. Here's part of it: Some pet parrots are born wi...

Lee, congratulations on your 'WINNINGS'! Not everyone can say they're a winner every morning! I'm living with CUZ KAREN and so I get to be the 'prize-winner' during the day while Karen's out earning the Kibble. Her Gabriel is house-bound, so I know EXACTLY how long it takes him to make his...deposit...

Melissa, is the problem in his back leg? If so, it sounds as if a wheelchair will help down the road - this according to what WheelChairsForDogs site states: "A wheelchair may be in order for your dog if it is suffering from degenerative myelopathy, hip dysplasia, disk or cervical disease, rupt...

Re: Help Needed: Love bird leg deformity

Stephanie, I'm not exactly sure what your bird's legs look like, but in case it's "splay leg" or "spraddle leg", here's a couple of sites that instruct how to treat the problem - but I'd certainly check with a vet to be sure. Good luck. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cliffs/6...

Dawn, I have been all over the internet trying to grab as much info as I can for something I didn't even understand, so it's taken a while! I'm clueless on kidney diseases - especially of an animal, but I've NOW learned that a dog born with an underdeveloped kidney has Renal Hypoplasia. I found a si...

Re: Other: Caroyln! In here please

Carolyn, I'm truly sorry for your loss. That had to have been one difficult and long drive from OSU. Sometimes all we have is the comfort of knowing that someone's out of pain and isn't suffering any longer. Isn't enough to sustain every minute, but helps in the end. Thoughts are with you. And with ...

Re: Help Needed: info on heat strokes

Well it sounds as if whatever the problem WAS - isn't a real problem now - that's great! Maybe he just needed some personal attention - maybe he's a 'middle child-pup'! I hope it's taking care of itself - I guess his mom knew where to take him!
