Re: Other: Speck did not make it

Pulmonary embolus is the term for clot in the lung in humans. I looked up the symptoms for humans and low temp. is not one of them. Usually people with suspected PE present with extreme shortness of breath and chest pain. There are blood tests that can be done to confirm a suspicion of PE, and then ...

Re: Dogs: Robby - Progress

Thank you for those pictures, Deepika, Robby is just darling! He looks like he's mothering the pommies, too. I hope he's growing well and healthy -- he looks like he is adapting nicely to his wheels.

Re: Help Needed: Seizures

I suggest you forward that post to Cody's Mom. As far as I know, she doesn't plan to post on this board again, and she has the most experience of anyone I know with sz activity especially in Aussies. If anyone can help or give advice, Cody's Mom can.

Re: Scruff shaking

Oops! Sue, it's my turn to apologize! In no way was I calling YOU an idiot! I know you were trying to clarify something I said, and my reference to idiots are those who "misunderstand" anything I have done or said to make them think I condone or encourage rough treatment of any animals. I ...

Re: Scruff shaking

Well, Sue, what can I say. To me, any person who thinks I condone or encourage rough treatment of any animal is an idiot. What I post on this board is some knowledge + some experience + some things that work for me. Whether any of it is accepted or rejected, I don't post anything differently from an...

Re: Scruff shaking

First, thank you for doing all that research. I don't have first-hand observational experience in mothering kittens. I do, however, stand by what I said about the scruff-shaking as a disciplinary method. It worked great on Paka if the head-taps weren't enough or he was too 'into' what he was doing t...

Re: Help Needed: Break-out of Acne (pimples)

Jane, I'd insist that his vet take a culture of the eruptions. In humans, what you describe would equate to herpes zoster, a very infectious, very uncomfortable condition. It could be nothing more than heat rash, but if it doesn't clear up within a few hours, call the vet again and ask about lab tes...

Re: Dogs: Robby- Progress

The massages are good, and if you can do physical therapy for his hind legs, that will help as well. What you're aiming for is to keep the muscles from shortening, or becoming permanently contracted, and also the massages help keep the circulation going so that the bones don't become brittle. Keepin...

Re: News: Pics of colt's legs "before"

Is there any way the colt can be prevented from bearing weight on its hind legs? You didn't mention how premature he was, so I can only guess that the joints aren't strong enough yet for him to be bearing weight on them. Baby bones are always fairly soft and pliable (which is why we always suspect a...

Re: Cats: developmental delays

I'm no feline expert, but .. it sure sounds like your little guy didn't get the parenting he needed to be a good kitty. Paka loves to be petted and cuddled and fussed over and he will bury his head into a fold of blanket and knead and act like he's trying to nurse (without actually sucking); he came...

Re: Help Needed: New to site have question

Okay, this sounds like a type of arthritis. I think one thing you can do for your now dog is to do a physical exam as soon as he exhibits signs of acute pain. Find out exactly where the pain is centered and see if you can tell - is it bone, soft tissue, nerve related? When Naya sleeps, not much dist...

Re: Hmm.

I had a visual of babies in those 4 wheel seats -- even though the baby can't walk or stand, it can still use its kicking motion to get around in this thing, which I do not know the name of. It looks like a high-chair seat on 4 spider legs. Could something like this be beneficial to a small dog with...

Re: Help Needed: New to site have question

What does OCD stand for? How did your first Golden get that, is it congenital or environmental or injury related? I had started to ask a lot of questions about your present Golden, but I think you need to consult with your vet first and get the blood tests, xrays and whatever else s/he recommends to...

Re: News: Pics of colt's legs "before"

This reminds me of an episode of Animal Cops: Houston a while back. They had rescued a bunch of farm animals that had been living in filthy conditions before finally being totally abandoned, and the cows were rangy looking and forced to walk around in mud mixed with their own excrement and so on. AN...

Re: Dogs: Robby- Progress

Paralysis doesn't mean a total inability to move. Robby is probably having involuntary reflexive action that causes him to kick. Usually it's just the muscles contracting and relaxing on their own. Congenital refers to something already present when you are born, and atrophy refers to wasting due to...
