Passing of Darwin

I know I don't post that often, but I wanted to let everyone know that Darwin passed on Saturday. His organs were not formed right, congenital defect, and his intestines ruptured leading to sepsis. I will miss his constant companionship, and even changing diapers. Thank you everyone for all the advi...

Re: Hi Everyone!! New here, let me tell you about me and Ker

Welcome! It's nice to have someone in the field here. And I'm sure I am not alone in saying that I appreciate your words on our advice. It can be challenging, but these little guys are worth the extra work. The bond I have with Darwin cannot be matched by any of my other kids. If you have any questi...

Re: cheapest source for newborn size diapers?

I think Amazon is the best source for diapers. A friend told me that if you join the diaper club (or something like that) you get a discount on every order. I swear by reusable diapers. I line them with panty liners so the diapers themselves don't get to soiled. I was able to get 2 diapers for $20 a...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

My cat, Darwin, gets diaper rashes often. Our vet says the best I can do is bathe him daily or every 2 days to clean the area and use baby wipes in between baths. Also, I found a great diaper creme by Burt's Bees that is natural and seems to help a lot. Darwin wears a diaper all the time and had bee...

Re: Preventing infection in a cat in diapers

I've decided to be bratty. :) I am taking the cutest pictures I can of Darwin this week (not hard to do! They all seem to be cute!) and will be sending a small package to the old vet. I am going to include, with the pictures, a copy of the treatment plan and supplements Dr. M has him on and a letter...

Re: Preventing infection in a cat in diapers

I don't express Darwin. There is no need really. He sometimes just dribbles when he's playing or cleaning himself but is mostly fecal incontinent. My vet is amazing. I really got lucky with her. The vet that saw Darwin before was pushing to have him put down saying he could never have a good quality...

Re: Preventing infection in a cat in diapers

My little Manx kitty, Darwin, has this issue a lot. He had a horrible Staph infection last time we went to the vet and she gave me some great advice. First, bathing after removing the diaper is a must if they are messy. If they aren't, baby wipes are safe and effective to use to clean them up. Also,...

Re: New here (elderly bowel incontinent dog)

Darwin is a 6 month old kitten with incontinence and I totally agree-consistency is key! My vet has Darwin on a raw diet to maintain a solid consistency but not too firm for him to eliminate. It seems to be working wonders, even after a few days. I am able to leave him without diapers for longer per...

Re: My Furry Family

Basil is only about 5 months old. He was found at an estimated 10 weeks and was very underweight so he was bottle fed for a few weeks before going to the shelter. He is heartworm negative. I can already tell that the medicine is working. I haven't heard him cough for a day now and he is much more ac...

Re: Darwin's first vet appointment

The other vet was the one the shelter works with. I have no intention of going to see him ever. Although he is supposed to be a specialist in internal medicine for animals and a very good doctor (according to Dr. M), I do not like his attitude. Silas was also recommended to be put to sleep when he w...

Darwin's first vet appointment

I took Darwin to the vet yesterday for the first time. It was quite the experience. They were very busy and I had to wait a while to see the vet. The entire time Darwin was without his pants so he was leaking all over the exam table. I don't think the vet's assistant realized the issue with fecal in...

My Furry Family

So I thought I was going to have one kitty without chronic health issues, but I was wrong. Basil, a kitten I adopted with Darwin, my fecal incontinent little boy, began coughing about a week after I got him. Knowing that this is uncommon for cats, I took him to the vet. It turns out that he has bron...

Re: New member with possible Manx Syndrome kitten

Thank you all! I appreciate the advice and will look in to the products you suggested. Darwin only leaks feces and the vet has him on Cisapride to keep them loose so he does not need to be expressed. He has control over urinating, but with the diapers on him it's not an issue. I have found a pretty ...

Re: Negative people

I get this all the time. I have a cat with very early stage renal issues, one with chronic urinary issues, and a kitten I just adopted who is fecal incontinent. People are constantly making comments about how much I must spend on them and how they don't think it's worth it. Someone actually told me ...

New member with possible Manx Syndrome kitten

I am so excited to find this site. I just adopted a kitten with missing vertebrae causing fecal incontinence. The shelter was told to euthanize him but they did not. I have only had him home for 2 days now and am struggling with keeping diapers on the little guy. I have searched the web for some hel...
