Re: Cannot express cats bladder

I also hold my cat upright to express her. I found that I had to have her above my waist level to do it. This is my method. I express her into the sink. This could also work with a large litter box on a table or counter at the right height for you, or if your sink is large enough, you could put a li...

Re: Cannot express cats bladder

Hi there, Are you doing this on your own, or do you have a helper? I had a hard time getting the hang of things with my cat. Like your situation, the vet never seemed to have a problem and it was frustrating. I do it on my own, but at the vet's office there were always two people, so I had to have s...

"Hunched" position after expressing bladder?

Hi friends and happy Thanksgiving to all! Miss Kitty and I are at the 4 1/2 year mark together and I remain very thankful for this group. We wouldn't have made it without you! Miss Kitty is almost 15. She was hit by a car before she came to me and although she can walk, she cannot pee or poop on her...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Kaz, just one other thought - will Jacky allow you to move his back legs for him, or does he play in any way that would stimulate some of those muscles? It's such a part of our routine that I forgot to mention that at some point it became apparent to me that the amount of play Miss Kitty got in ever...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Hi Kaz -- You are in far better hands with critters and CarolC than with me regarding meds (and probably everything else!). But I did want to let you know that I read your post and I admire you and your loving care for Jacky so much. It is very easy for me to recall how anxious I was about Miss Kitt...

Re: Bladder expression while traveling

Thanks Carol! I usually need a counter -- she grasps the edge and I hold her rear over the sink to express her - however your question made me think if I can enlist my brother to help, I may have more options. I love your ingenuity!

Bladder expression while traveling

Hi friends, Wishing everyone here a holiday season filled with love, joy, peace, and good health, whatever you may be celebrating. Tomorrow my brother and I set off on a car trip that is 11 hours under the very best conditions to get to our mom for Christmas, with my special needs cat and his specia...

Re: Anyone on the board in northern New Jersey?

Carol and Critters! I am just back from the vet and I am so excited I had to post. He worked with another client who manually expressed her cat's bladder for 14 years! He doesn't think I am crazy! His vet tech told me if I wanted to take a night off and gave them Miss Kitty's schedule, they would co...

Re: Anyone on the board in northern New Jersey?

Thanks Critters! I think I have found someone to try -- not a cat-specific vet, but someone whose online reviews suggest he is especially good with cats and works with a number of cats with chronic kidney disease and diabetes, so at least he seems to support people willing to go the distance! Miss K...

Anyone on the board in northern New Jersey?

I have moved to Montclair, NJ and could use recommendations for a great veterinarian. I would love to work with someone who has experience with tail pull injuries and incontinence. It would be so great to go to a vet who doesn't think what I am doing is nuts. :D

Thanks!!!

Re: Gassy tummy makes it harder to express bladder

I was online today and wanted to post this just in case it might help someone else who ran into any of the same troubles I have had. Miss Kitty continues to do well; the vet thinks she is great and she seems to feel good most of the time, and really terrific (like a young kitten, although she is 12 ...

Re: Gassy tummy makes it harder to express bladder

Carol, thank you so much for thinking of us! That means a lot to me. I am sorry I didn't respond right away. The day your message came, for some reason I could read it on email but couldn't access the board to reply. Since then whenever I have thought to respond, I haven't been at my computer. Thing...
