Beauty, the disabled bald eagle, gets a new beak

There's a great story on www.birdsofpreynorthwest.org about a wonderful Alaskan bald eagle named "Beauty," who had her beak shot off and is now receiving a beak prosthesis to enable her to eat. Especially check out the video of Beauty - her courage is amazing!

Re: I need a duck wheelchair!

Hi! Sounds like your duck has splay leg, a condition caused by a number of things such as improper flooring surface, lack of proper swimming area, poor diet or injury. There is a good website about duck care at: www.liveducks.com I have heard of splay leg in ducks being corrected by supervised...

Re: buffalo weaver - Aragorn

Hello from the home of Jill, the disabled dove. She has a similar medical history to Aragorn, and I certainly appreciate your desire to help Aragorn live as normal a life as possible. Would you kindly let us know if Aragorn is still surviving? Thanks so much!

Sky is beautiful!

What a beautiful parakeet! Sky's a testimony to so many wonderful things animals teach us by example: perseverance, adaptability, optimism, patience with oneself and joy of life despite difficulties. You, Xenia, are a testimony to the loving bond between person and animal that makes all things possi...

Siamese Fighting Fish

These fish prefer to be in a smaller space, and by themselves. If you put them in a tank together (any sex combination) they tend to fight to the death. You can purchase special containers made for beta fish that have a divider that can be inserted in the container to keep two of them physically sep...

Thanks Critters!

Great story! I think they should allow the blue and gold macaw to stay in the front of the store despite his occasional rough language. I think he's earned it.

Potassium supplementation

Please be careful with potassium supplementation. Too much potassium can create as many problems as too little (cardiac arrhythmias). Follow your vet's advice on this one.

Linda's Disabled Dove

Hi Linda! I'm replying to your e-mail on this website because it may help someone else who finds a disabled dove. I'm assuming the dove your children found is wild, and doesn't belong to a human owner already. Although wild birds are hardy and have a strong survival instinct, they can be difficult t...

Warning about bird toy

I recently heard of a ladder/swing toy that someone purchased for their lovebird from a company called Petstages that almost caused the bird's death. The lovebird got his head caught in the plastic link that comes with the ladder and was dangling by his neck; fortunately, the owner spotted the troub...

Re: Dachsund with ruptured disk on E-vet

Hi everyone! I live in Denver, CO and my cat was a patient at Alameda East for several years. My experience with their animal hospital was only positive - my cat was given the best of care even though she was elderly and eventually became terminally ill. NO ONE suggested euthanasia to me as a course...

Re: My Mom passed away

First, let me express how sorry I am that your mom has passed away. It's painful to hear how much you're suffering with grief. I'm sending you prayers for peace, comfort and love in the days to come. I am a registered nurse who has cared for adults and children in nursing homes for 20 years. I knew ...
